When this prototype Southern emu was delivered in 1971 it appeared cutting edge compared to the VEPS and HAPs of the period and would become a progenitor of the class 508s that would be delivered to the South Western division. Here the brand new unit is on early test run.

When you are at the height of creativity :D, your accidental vigorous camera shakes even produce creative results lol
When I first saw this bird fussing with a small round object I thought it had discovered a ping pong ball floating in the warm Gulf shallows. As I got closer I realized that it was not a ping pong ball- but a very small puffer fish. The bird didn't seem to know what to make of it, and after a few minutes of trying to figure out how to swallow this odd little thing it had found, he simply dropped it and moved on. The heron hadn't taken two steps when a keen-eyed Laughing Gull swooped in and took the little morsel. I wonder if either of them 'know' that the flesh of several of these Puffer species can be deadly toxic when ingested.
The adult Little Blue's facial skin really lights up during breeding season- I tried to show the colors as true as possible here. It is far more vivid in real life. See shot below embiggened for detail.

It was summer all the time.

When darkness falls in the forest deep, night spirits cry out and the wood creatures seek to feed and feast. Then from the mist aberrations appear and prey on living things that exude fear. If to your eyes the haunting starts stand silent still and quiet your heart, for if they can’t sense the fear in you, the morning comes and your nightmare is through…

Keeping my ear out for the distant rumble of tractors, I stepped out into a freshly seeded farmer's field to get this one.

When Frederick the Great was still crown prince he spent the happiest days of his life at Rheinsberg. It was his testing ground, a place where he could think up new design ideas that he would later execute with great mastery at Sanssouci.
His younger brother, Prince Henry of Prussia, subsequently transformed Rheinsberg into a leading center of artistic endeavor and a court of muses. Henry’s choice of the early Neoclassical style had a lasting effect on the design of the palace and garden. No other palace can compete with Rheinsberg’s delightfully scenic location on the banks of Grienicksee. Here, nature, art and architecture blend together into a harmonious ensemble. Prince Henry’s erstwhile court of muses lives on with Rheinsberg Palace through the Rheinsberger Musikakademie, the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, and the Kurt Tucholsky Literaturmuseum.

When you're with Ned Harris, you find raptors. Plain and simple. We found some groups of migrating Swainson's Hawks in a few places in the Santa Cruz Flats. Ned, please correct my ID if needed!

"When the Moon hits your eye like a big Pizza Pie, that's Amore!" Tonight on my way home from work, I saw this beautiful orange almost Full Moon rising, and I had to make a stop at Signal Hill Hilltop Park to photograph this beauty! When I edited it on my computer in Lightroom, I saw the amazing details of the craters on the upper right side of this Waning Gibbous Moon! It looked like cheese to me, and then I remembered the Oldies song, "That's Amore!" Good night and sweet dreams, everyone! 🌕🍕📷 ==============================

When I saw this it took me back to childhood. It's how I remember the countryside as a child; or rather, how I remember pictures of the coutryside when I was a child - muted colours, grey, washed-out skies, defunct hedges, long forgotten fences, wind strained trees and sheep. This is what old photographs can do to your memories: they replace the bright sunshine, vibrant colours of nature and the sense of freedom of being out in the countryside. And here I am, perpetuating and even exacerbating the problem.
A sad sight indeed. A decaying Jack O' Lantern looks decidedly unhappy at being forgotten.
On the doorstep... at home in West Sussex.
When I was filling my bird feeder, I looked down and saw this chipmunk actually perched on my right shoe. He got off, started collecting seeds and paid no attention as I pulled out my phone and took pictures! Just a little bit too familiar, perhaps?
The dark mottled water soaked up the bright shades of the houses and sky. From the rocks, the hum of the approaching night was electric, with lights and people moving from the beach to the labyrinth of alleys filled with restaurants and music. Remember when the sound of little feet
Was the music we danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when
Remember when

#RememberWhen is the topic for Flickr Friday.
I remember when, before the ball point pen was invented, a fountain pen was the universal writing instrument. Also, since schools aren't teaching cursive anymore, we'll soon be saying, "remember when we used to be able to read and write handwriting?" which, to my way of thinking, is a real tragedy. Cursive is so much smoother to write than printing individual letters, and It pains me to think that our grandchildren may not be able to read the hundreds of handwritten letters and documents that we have saved that chronicle much of our history over the past eight decades.
When Sun rises, it rises for everyone but today a new Sun rises for me … Happy Bengali New Year 1417 !!
When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.

It's almost that time ;) We practised a little in last years costume today and she owed me some pics, as she refused to waer this last year halloween. We had some fun with this today though, which made up for it ;) Can;t wait for next week !
Check out this massive mural painted on the side of a new shipping container home in downtown Jacksonville.
When I first drove by this pier I knew I had to come back and shoot it at sunrise. We had to wake up extra early to get here for sunrise, but It was well worth it! Not the nicest of mornings, but I think the shot turned out pretty decent.
When we point and click, some call the end result a picture. Photography is more than a mirror image of a subject. It is an interpretation of what we have seen in our minds. It is an extension of our own selves.

Us, seniors, we do not smile so easily anymore?
But when we do, it is genuine, with our eyes, and THAT is our beauty!
Have a great day and thank you, M, (*_*)
