Know that when you leave...

By blood and by me, you walk like a thief. By blood and by me, I fall when you leave.

When the marine fog lifts...

Metaphorically, I've been experiencing auditory marine fog thanks to an ear infection. Waiting for it to lift. Need sunlight.

when the solar project Segs II in Daggett, California, closed up shop, all the mirrors were turned down to protect them. it is an alien environment. Near Barstow.

I turn to sitting here, looking over Oltrano and Florence... Brunelleschi's Dome is on the left and Santa Croce on the right...

Florence is a must-see city for any art lover, but its delights reach far beyond the museums and galleries. According to some, the city itself is a piece of art. Have you heard of Stendhal syndrome, that supposed illness that causes sufferers to grow faint at the sight of great beauty? It also goes by the name “Florence syndrome,” as it was first coined after 19th century visitors to Florence were overcome.

We were driving for several hours in the early morning around Mt. Fuji, trying to get a glimpse of the Mountain. We finally stopped at a golf club parking lot to stretch our legs and WOW, the fog lifted and we got this wonderful view of the Mountain. GCFujiv2

When snow covers the ground, people's movements leave traces behind. The path of those heading toward the shrine remained visible here.

When the Goodie Bowls start to get low on goodies, Mr. Chipmunk has to do some quick math to determine how much he can stuff into his cheeks and how many trips back and forth to his den it'll take to get what's left before those pesky birds and squirrels show back up.

I think it would be hard for me to pick my favorite season of the year, as I like them all very much. This winter however wasn't very fun. With almost no snow, there weren't a lot of things making the season beautiful - at least it was a chance to photograph some trains in places, where the sun would usually not allow it.

I therefore was eagerly anticipating the arrival of spring this year, tired of the constant grayscale of Polish winter. With the first green grass popping up and flowers of the year blooming in the still very low sunlight, pictures look way more pleasant. Just like the flowers, the railway traffic is also blooming at this time of year, with aggregate trains becoming more frequent.

Changes came in the transfer of the famous oversize loads from Wrocław to the harbour of Gdynia. For the first time in years, SKPL did not deploy its SM31 for the journey. Instead, SM42-954 of the company "BM Naprawa Pojazdów Kolejowych Antoni Bartosz Moch" (very long name :D) was attached to the train TNS 553003 Nakło nad Notecią - Kościerzyna (note: the journey was done with a couple of diferent schedules, this one was one of 4) and hauled it through the dense forest areas of Northern Poland.

Said SM42 is seen here on the line no. 215, which (as one of its stretches) connects Czersk and Bąk - both places lying on once very important lines - the Royal Prussian Eastern Railway and the interwar period Polish Coal Mainline respectively. The time here, as in many places in Northern Poland, has stopped years ago. Telegrah pylons, almost unused rails and overgrowth very much remind everyone of times gone by.

When I first got married it was so exciting to go the mailbox to get my mail. In fact, I would enter contests, send for coupons, order magazines anything just to fill my mailbox. Nowadays other than junk mail, my mailbox doesn't thrill me like it once did. Most of my bills are sent electronically and there is hardly any correspondence sent through the mail. Trying to be more environmentally aware last year I opted to skip mailed holiday greetings. I do miss the days of picking out special stationery and hand- writing letters to family and friends.

Everything in our society feels so urgent, we don't seem to want to wait for anything anymore. Do you remember mailing away your film and how exciting it was to get your photos back in the mail? I wouldn't want to go back to that but I think we need to learn about waiting and being excited again. Anticipating something is almost better than getting it.

When the flock of Lapwings went up so did the Golden Plovers. These birds were a very long way off and were just a small section of a photo I took of the lapwings. One thing I noticed was that these Golden Plovers flocked higher than the Lapwings.

... it gets super saturated too! One of the delights of the season, IMO.

Explored at # 92 on November 6.

“…when hell freezes over.” But hell had, in fact, frozen over.

when i lived over 7th avenue in nyc i had rubber-lined curtains to block out the sound of local fire engines and the ongoing traffic. i probably tried a white noise machine too, i can't remember. anyway, my barn pictures are starting to put me to sleep. mid-winter somnambulating. too bad it doesn't work when i actually want to go to sleep.

When the sun illuminates Starlings at just the right angle, their colors shine bright.

For a few brief moments each year, the sun and this solitary tree share the same path.

Long before the lavender reaches its peak bloom, the composition already exists in the mind of the photographer. The tree, the horizon, the flowering rows, and the sun's trajectory slowly converge toward a fleeting alignment.

On this evening, everything finally came together.

As the sun slipped beneath the horizon, its light passed through the trunk, turning the tree into a silhouette suspended between earth and sky. Around it, the lavender field glowed with the last warm tones of the day.

The scene lasts only a few minutes. The alignment takes months.

When a storm is coming, there is always a ray of light behind.

When he stepped into the light I made this nice buck portrait.
