When you walk the Dubrovnik wall, you are regularly presented with views of this nature. Little snippets of the old town and beyond are presented to you in a beautiful stone framework.
When I placed warm, just-dried laundry on the kitchen counter, Jimmy could not have been more happy. I took lots of photos; thank you for your indulgence.
When it first flew up into the tree, it gave a big shake... like a dog and the light backlit its feathers.

In 1672 when war was declared between the Dutch Republic and England, France, Münster, and Cologne, Bodegraven was just behind the Water Defense Line. The Water Line was inundated and formed a barrier to the advancing French troops. But during the winter the French could advance over the frozen polders to Meije and Zwammerdam. Before reaching Alphen aan den Rijn they could be repelled by the Dutch. Thaw had set in so the only retreat route was along the dike of the Oude Rijn. The French therefore came through Bodegraven and destroyed it. Afterwards, the fort Wierickerschans was built just east of the town. Bron: Wikipedia

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.
I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way
* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.
I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.
This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.
RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).
Same spotted eagle ray as an earlier post (but from this angle you can't see the spots). The eagle ray had finished searching through the sand for food and then rose in front of me to give this view of its face, with the pig-like nose. I'd say it is cute, but I know that is debatable. :-)
The opportunistic palometa is underneath, with another one barely visible behind.
The eagle ray is listed as endangered by the IUCN.
When our time is done
and comes the setting of the sun.
We remember the life we
lived with someone.
Living our life in the sun.
Fear not the judgement of one.
For all see peace when the day is done.
As we live a life in the sun.
Faces without names
Playing devils and angels
Lit up by the strobes
Moving hypnotised
I caught your reflection
In the neon on glass
An electric silhouette
Against a static sky

When we arrived in Alfriston for our summer holiday we made a beeline for this place as it was the nearest pub! A big pie and a glass of ale went down very nicely indeed
When I first adopted Emmy, I was told that "she never barks". Before we even got her home, she had decided that we were her "people". After a few days, she barked for the first time, now she is a very faithful watchdog, little but fiercely protective.

When I went walking along the river to this location I could tell the flow was very shallow after all the dry weather we have had. I was curious to find out what the effect would be on this little fall. When I saw these strands of silk I couldn't wait to get the camera out.
When out the other day decided to ride out to see if any eagles. First time out there since last winter and have heard they have been seeing them. Well one on the ground and several in trees. They have picked the deer carcass to the bones. These are some of the deer that get hit by cars near this farmers land and he pulls them farther in the field where the eagles can come and go and won't get hit by cars.
Spring has also started in the beautiful Polenz Valley in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Here it always happens when the first spring snowflakes start to bloom.
And even if they are still found only a few at the moment or in small groups, you can feel spring.
In addition, when I was moving close to the ground for this photo, the first bees flew across my path.
And as background music there was the gentle rustling of the river Polenz and the singing of quite a few birds.
For me, this was a very successful and recommendable trip. But if you want to experience the highlight, the snowflake meadow in all its glory, then it's better to wait a few more days.
But you'll have to be prepared for a lot more visitors than the few I encountered today.
