Something I've wanted to shoot for a long time, I finally got the chance last weekend. I was roaming around the Niles Canyon Railway maintenance yard when I saw a couple of guys welding on this car, one of the many pieces of railroad equipment being restored by an all volunteer crew.
Under the excellent training of Greg Larkin and Ken Zingel students were delighted in showing their new skills with finished portable barbeques

Welds on an industrial stainless steel tank at Tide Point glow in fluorescent light. The site was once housed a Proctor & Gamble soap factory and is now an office park.

Weld Mausoleum, North Street, Chideock. The Welds were the local estate holders after Thomas Weld of Lulworth Castle bought the estate of Chideock for his 6th son, Humphrey, in 1802. After Humphrey’s death in 1852, the estate passed to his son, Charles. Charles had built and may also have designed the mausoleum, perhaps in conjunction with J S Hansom.
Area high school students competed in the inaugural Carl Sandburg College Welding Competition held May 18 in Building G at the Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams from Galesburg, ROWVA, United, Monmouth-Roseville and Galva competed in the event.
I saw this last time I was in the garage/workshop area. Had to crawl under the work table to get an angle I liked. Kind of filthy, but I figured, I've been in worse places than this.

Found in a vacant trade school: A 1942 Jam Handy instructional filmstrip on the delicate art of welding aluminum tubes.
24" Tall. Cattails made with 5/8" steel rod welded to 3/16" stems. Finer details added with a Dremel. Sheet metal leaves bent and hand forged using a vise and ball peen hammer. Steel plate base shaped and textured with an angle grinder. Finish: heat colored and black wax applied with the use of propane torch.

The original frame had rigid foot pegs that did not fold.. The previous owner of this Greeves had cut these off and welded Bates folding footrests to the frame. The round rubber pegs aren't the best on a bike to be used for trials and each side was at a different height which also wouldn't help. So the first job was to cut them off and weld up the holes left in the frame. My son is doing the welding.
