Found in a vacant trade school: A 1942 Jam Handy instructional filmstrip on the delicate art of welding aluminum tubes.
After 2 years of saying "I would love to take some photos of your welding shop" I finally brought my camera over to John's welding shop. I was not disappointed.
Here's my wonderful addition; the welding table. Already it has been such an improvement. There's the headgate that I built in less than 2 hours today, and I even cut the pieces for another.
It was such a breeze working on the table instead of on the ground.
I "heart" my welding table.
they have to heat the heads up to 400 degrees and then weld in stages to build the valve ports up. Then grind down by hand.
...i want to work here!!!

Unfortunately auto focus really doesn't seem to like the subject much, no idea why... It's not like I pointed it at the sun... Oh actually, yes it is isn't it!
I imagine the act of welding liquifies the layer of zinc/galvanization and the pressure from the arc or welding flame causes spattering, but I don't know.
The plate is embedded in the edge of a load bearing column, the screw-thread side is the inside face of the parking structure's exterior wall.
Parts of the welding booths at WCC are made of a light-blocking plastic sheeting. This might be cheaper than metal construction, but the screens will eventually develop holes because of hot welding spatter.
