Gusset welded on with some grinding. Either you make the welds look good, or you grind them flush so you don't see them at all. Or you leave them to look half assed.

Heather was in Mendocino for the Weekend. On saturday I worked on the
recumbant. It is supposed to look more or less like this:

Madeline also sort of learned how to weld. 'Little C's' I kept telling
her.
Sunday I cleaned the lenses on my old broken welding helmet. With the lense
clear I could stare at the sun, and actually see the tree that framed the sun,
or at least the silhouette of the tree).
Looks pretty 19th century, eh? I made it. It's basically a box spray-painted black, with a shroud made from an old t-shirt. It has the gold-coated window from a wedling mask taped to the front, a tripod taped to the bottom, and a camera taped to the inside. I use it like a ND filter to take daytime long exposures.
