David Janssen and Tuesday Weld, "The Fugitive", episode "Dark Corner", 2nd season, 1964. Taken on Paper Camera(Comic Boom mode) on an android device.

This welding process, also known as welding a group of processes that uses heat released by a exothermic reaction to enable welding.

The exotherm of the reduction of a metal oxide is used as a source of energy for welding.

The oxides used are those that have a low heat of formation, while the reducing agents are those that have high heat formation.

The ends of the components to be soldered are placed

Inside a mold, specially constructed for the parts to be

welded.

In the case of welding cables or electrical connections, a Carbon-bonded graphite crucible; In the crucible that interconnects with the mold is placed the metal oxide (which will be reduced to pure element) and aluminum which is the reducing agent.

Steel produced in a refractory crucible, the

temperatures above 2000 ° C, is carried to the tops of

Rails, dissolving them and joining them homogeneously.

After 4 to 5 minutes the formers are removed and the surplus material is deburred. after the the weld is ground to reproduce the rail profile.

We spent the morning trying to get our first set of shade posts to

align well. After some clamping and screaming we managed to get

something within reason and I did a few tack welds to hold it together

long enough to grind off the paint in the weld zone.

flipped the generator mounting brackets and moved up one set of bolt holes- will make a powersteering pump mount on the lower two studs, and weld new/old brackets together for strength... raised generator a full 3", now have 8" clearance to cram a power steering pump into- hopefully:)

Here's the broken pot removed. You can see that it's a 10K, It's important we replace this with an identically rated one.

fashioned to proportions of my liking.

It's damn hard to weld 16 gauge steel.

Before you know it you burn a hole in it instead of welding joints.

With reinforcing piece tacked from backside it had to be fully welded on the front side. The problem was keeping heat from creeping along the strut and melting the plastic housing of the derailleur. I solved this by hanging the vulnerable bits off the edge of the table, above a bucket. I captured the bracket with a couple of magnets and the "finger" on the left (with clamp attached for weight) serves as counterbalance so the assembly doesn't fall off the table. After welding a small bead, I'd douse the far end of the steel with water from the bottle to keep it cool. Weld and splash, weld and splash.

We bought a welder, then proceeded to make a shedload of captive nuts for no reason. Awesome.

Before and after of one of the welding glass pictures. obviously the filter is VERY green! It can be hard to adjust that properly, even with lightroom and photoshop (at least for inexperienced me!)
