November 3, 2007 - This is another 'thing' I made in welding class at The Crucible. A total of five pieces of metal taken from the scrap bin. The antlers were the inspiration for the rest of the moose, as I found that piece as-is.
He lives in our garden now hidden amongst the plants, but I'm pretty sure he keeps the mountain lions at bay.
A friend was doing some welding so I decided to try my luck at getting some close-up shots. We had a good system where I'd focus on the spot, shut my eyes really tight and then he'd start. When I heard sparks, I shot. Got some pleasing results.
Closeup of my welds. I'm trying to re-train myself to weld. Haven't done much welding in 5 yrs. I've got a ways to go before I'm good again.
Getting ready to remove the "stumps" that used to support the parking deck. I think this contraption is meant to go down in the muck and cut them off. (Or maybe it's supposed to shake them loose like a pile driver action in reverse?)

A success story at Angus College on Monday when Catriona McKenzie received her Modern Apprentice Certificate in Fabrication and Welding, Coding Certificate and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3. Pictured with her were, from left - Jackie Howie, Ron Kerr, JM Henderson's; and Jim Stewart course leader mechanical engineering.
Using 1.5 SST allowed us to only require welding two or three sides to meet strength goals. Leaving the inside corners looking sharp and clean.
