Feb 25, 2014: The job: restore a bearing surface on a badly galled shaft. Here it is welded all around to fatten it up again. The real trouble was that 4 in dia, 6 in long slug of steel in the middle: after welding each end it took two hours to cool down enough to turn it smooth.

Whilst at the Royal Norfolk Show, I spotted the stall of a welding company who were demonstrating their new plasma torch to customers.
You were able to cut a section out of an old digger bucket.
In order to have a go, and not have to buy the dam thing I took this photo of the welder for the owner. Hope you like it Stuart.
