We continue to wrap up the rest of the chassis welding. If you haven't already seen, we just had the Rock Bug rolling for suspension clearance testing. This was blogged at blog.spidertrax.com/2009/01/07/a-rolling-rock-bug/

After mordanting and dyeing in weld that was grown in my garden, three of these skeins were dipped in a dilute ammonia solution. It's kind of amazing to see how much the change in ph altered the intensity of the color.

I moved the propane bracket forward and added a bracket to hold the two 6 volt batteries. The front A frame of my boler has already been extended by a foot so this might not work on other bolers. I also welded on a new jack as the old one was finished.

TWI is at the forefront of solid phase friction welding and processing technology. Active and innovative in welding research and development since the 1960s, we are responsive to industry needs and provide consultancy services to all industry sectors.

Support for industry includes: advice on component design, process selection & quality issues, troubleshooting, feasibility & pre-production trials, application & prototype equipment development.

TWI has been responsible for many key innovations and developments in solid phase joining; Friction stir welding was invented at TWI and was rapidly applied by industry; Linear friction welding was developed into a mature joining process for turbine blades.

I got hold of some welding glass so this was more a test of if I can restore the colour and get rid of the green tint to everything from the glass.

During my lunch break I "securely" attached the welding glass to my lens with 2 x elastic bands (really should have taken a photo of the setup) and snapped away, figured it would be rude not to include myself in ghost form since I had 1 min to play with :D

I think that I have got the processing pretty sorted as far as restoring the colour goes (I know the sky is totally blown out but that wasn't the point of this shot) so time to find some more interesting things to shoot with it now........................

I've been cutting this square tubing into pieces and then butt welding it back together, just for the experience of laying some weld beads and trying different amperages and techniques.

Some not so good welds, and some even worse. Looong way to go.
