use material by heating: to join together pieces or parts of some material by heating them and hammering or using other pressure to make them fuse, or be joined in this way
I wondered why the estate of Larz and Isabel Anderson was called Weld, so I did a little research.
Larz Anderson came from a wealthy family from Cincinnati, Ohio, but they were no where near as wealthy as Isabel's family, the Welds. I don't know if she was an only child, but she inherited $17 million when she was 5, in 1882. Her family came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony from England in the early 1600s. They fought in King Philip's War, the Civil War, and fought against the Pequot indians in Connecticut. They bought land from Algonquian indians in Contoocook, NH. They owned a fleet of ships that traded with China, railroads, and real estate. They have a close relationship with Harvard going back about 400 years. Former Massachusetts governor William Weld was from this family. They sold an investment company to George H.W. Bush's uncle, which was later sold to Merril Lynch.
I'm fascinated by their history, but I've written way too much about it here. You can find a lot more at wikipedia:
The guy on the left of the picture is tack welding frame sub assemblies together from the pile of parts in front off him, his completed work is hooked on the rack in the right of the picture.
The welders behind him then complete the welds, they will each have a specific section to weld before they pass it to the next guy behind them, and so on until the frame is welded
Trying to get my eye back in after a several month hiatus from welding. Padding beads, and running some lap joints, and butt joints.
This CO2 MIG welding machine is used as a power source. It is especially designed for short arc capability of welding with wire size ranging from 0.06 to 1.2/1.2 to 1.6 mm. In this welding machine, the weld is down to up to 30 amps and these are best suited for sheet metal application. This machine is ideal for general fabrication purposes up to 250/400 amps. - www.atcomaart.com/pd/70576749556957656868/mig-welders/mig...

We continue to wrap up the rest of the chassis welding. If you haven't already seen, we just had the Rock Bug rolling for suspension clearance testing. This was blogged at blog.spidertrax.com/2009/01/07/a-rolling-rock-bug/

Welding and joining technologies are fundamental to engineering and manufacturing. Without the ability to make strong and durable connections between materials it would be impossible to produce the many different items we all rely on in our everyday lives – from the very large (buildings, pipelines, trains and bridges) to the very small (medical implants and electronic devices).
TWI has its roots in welding and joining technology and over many years has been responsible for developing and encouraging the adoption of new techniques and best practice in all industry sectors, providing its Members with the right manufacturing choices first time.

The top stays on by friction. It's a tight fit. The drive wheel was made on a lathe and hardened. To see the cover on see: flickr.com/photos/21702692@N05/2199429549/

sheet metal remember the laser samples? this is why we ran them. the rib needs a round on the corner so it will fit inside the bend of the pan. and the bend has a wider radius than the software shows.
