Aluminium welding is not easy and even less so upside down and the results are thankfully much stronger then they were at the start.

After the scene in this photo, the sky turned black and the rain fell hard. I still wanted to make progress before calling it a night, so that I could have more time in Uganda for the weekend, so I pressed on.
The rain stung my face and invaded my clothing despite my rain gear. At one moment, I pulled over to look at my GPS and the water and gravel conspired to cause the bike to fall from under me. The left foot peg broke off.
The rest of the ride that night was made more difficult, as I had to either lightly rest my foot on the shifter, or hold it on other parts of the bike. First order of the morning was finding someone who could weld it back on.
GPS track of this weekend trip is here

“I enjoy welding, I found I’m naturally good at it and when I first tried it I thought it was pretty cool. It’s also the juxtaposition of it being a man’s job, but I can do it and I like that about it”
“Would you say you’re better than your male counterparts?"
“Yeah, well apparently women are naturally suited to it because of the detail involved."
