Our birthday special pauses on the French River bridge for a classic shot, and the 3 car train fits perfectly. July 22 2017 at 1725.
look around you
look down the bar from you
at the faces that you see
are you sure this is where you want to be
these are your friends
but are they real friends
do they love you as much as me
are you sure this is where you want to be
you seem in such a hurry to lead this kind of life and
you've caused so many pain and misery
but look around you, take a good look
just between you and me
are you sure that this is where you want to be
please don't let my tears persuade you, I had hoped I wouldn't cry
but lately, teardrops seem a part of me
but look around you, and take a good look
at all the locals used-to-be's
are you sure that this is where you want to be
On February 12, 1999 WC train SOGBA consisted of 6628, 1761 and 3010 leading 96 cars up the hill out of Trout Lake. You just never knew what to expect on WC in the Upper Peninsula. SDL's and F's were common along with the different varieties of 45's but anything that ran could turn up. Swap that lead 45 for a SD40/40-2 and apply red, white and black and you have a basic SOO lash from the 70's, I was lucky as hell to get a second chance at stuff like this even though the SOO was long gone.
The twins reverse into Waldwick Yard with all their work done for the day. On this particular run, it worked between Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood.
WC train 3 is hot on heels of both CN 341 and 347 as it rolls west at Saunders on August 26, 1998 with 6591 and 7581. I had a very productive 45 minutes on the overpass shooting a cowl leading each CN train and this SD45 powered freight.
Wisconsin Central eastbound train T002 or #2 going thru the S curves by the old Oshkosh Foundry approaching the Fox River swing bridge.
I don't recall where I got this slide (I know I didn't take it) so if you have any clues on the photographer or location, let me know and I'll credit properly.
Empty All-Rail or "E-Rail" headed back to Minnesota's Iron Range for another trip back to Escanaba with taconite pellets rolling downgrade near the bottom of Sam Anderson Hill
March 1999 and grinding uphill towards Gilchrist comes the GBSOA with 2252, 1761, 6656 and 583. You can take to the bank there was no other railroad that this consist be duplicated on by the late 90's, even if you removed the SDL!
It seemed somewhat odd that both SOO and WC ended up running 6600 series units by my home. Even though the SOO would always be my favorite the WC SD45 6600's were more impressive than the SOO's plain jane SD40-2 6600's. WC 6615, AC 1754, 1752, 1753 thunder out of Trout Lake with 8000 tons on the run to Gladstone. September 23, 1998.
Wisconsin Central SD45 7528 leads this Minorca taconite train at Pembine, WI back in 2002. Still trying to get the old scanner compatible with the laptop, with so so results. Biggest problem was it was built for Windows XP...doh!
January 1990 and WC 728 and DMIR 139 head train 41 near MP A30 west of Trout Lake. Another off the snowmobile late evening shot.
Grab some Miller Lites and drive around looking at SD60's.
Another scorcher is well underway as L506 starts into the yard via the North Runner with a nice cut of steel coils in addition to usual BNSF equipment. The SD60 show has been ongoing for weeks now, and I have found every way to avoid capitalizing on it. While nothing fancy, I'm okay with the waning nose light here.
CN ET44AC 3069, the WC heritage unit leads CN G825, grain loads for Manitoba as it passes a cemetery in Theresa, WI.
back in the winters of 1994 & 1995 the WC leased several LS&I U30C's to help out with all of their all-rail ore trains. 3011 was sandwiched between two SD45's on this empty train tied down at Parkland/South Itasca.
August 27, 1993 was a tough pill to swallow as WC had taken over the Itel roads in WI. The all Alco GB&W and the FRVR with it's neat roster of EMD's were folded into the WC. The EMD's of FRVR had a place on WC but the Alco's had a very limited future as most if not all were in storage within a few weeks. A few were recalled into service in early 1994 as we suffered through a tough winter and WC's business was booming but they didn't last long working on the WC. I'd made the trip to Wisconsin Rapids a few days before the end to get my last fix of real GB&W action. Arranging to be off work a few extra days I stayed around until the end. The 321 went to work at the Rapids switching and it was the first actual movement I seen after the WC takeover. A couple other C424's, a C420 and an RS27 sit on the roundhouse lead while 321 does its yard work.
New Brighton was a great location in the WC days to often find the morning eastbound train staged to depart. This morning was no exception with a pair of SD45's.
