Tourists in boat by group of playful dolphins in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran.
The entire Hormuz region feels like being in a different country from Iran, because locals are mostly Arab and Sunni Muslims with quite different traditions, including African cultural heritage, Arab clothes and foods that are not considered halal in the rest of Iran, such as shark meat and molluscs. However, people identify as Iranian with the same strength or more as if they were in the heart of the country.

An abstract and dynamic capture of ocean waves in motion, blending deep blues with splashes of white foam. The blurred textures and expressive movement evoke the untamed power of the sea, turning water into a canvas of energy and emotion.
The beautiful pattern and slope of sandstone rock of 'The Wave', Arizona.
One of 20 travelers that day who had luck to get permit for hiking to see The Wave.
The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in the United States of America near the Arizona and Utah border, on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, on the Colorado Plateau. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless hike required to reach it.

I love Japanese food, especially vegetable tempura, Korokke (Japanese potato croquettes) and Agedashi Tofu. Not only is Japanese food delicious, it is also presented beautifully. What better way to eat such delicate and delicious food than with a pair of elegant chopsticks?
These antique Japanese chopsticks are made of Cloisonné. They are set against a background of a traditional depiction of the ocean printed and gilt on fine paper.
This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a weekly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each week, and the image is to be posted on the Monday of the week.
This week the theme, “pair” was chosen by Beverley, BlueberryAsh.
I thought this pair of elegant antique chopsticks was a suitable choice.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. In recent centuries, vitreous enamel has been used, and inlays of cut gemstones, glass and other materials were also used during older periods. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné. The decoration is formed by first adding compartments (cloisons in French) to the metal object by soldering or affixing silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, which are often of several colours. Cloisonné enamel objects are worked on with enamel powder made into a paste, which then needs to be fired in a kiln.
The Japanese produced large quantities from the mid Nineteenth Century, of very high technical quality cloisonné. In Japan cloisonné enamels are known as shippō-yaki (七宝焼). Early centres of cloisonné were Nagoya during the Owari Domain. Companies of renown were the Ando Cloisonné Company. Later centres of renown were Edo and Kyoto. In Kyoto Namikawa became one of the leading companies of Japanese cloisonné.
And one of the best shots was in my opinion actually when the boat disappeared from the frame and only those wavepatterns were left behind.

Depending on your transportation options, the long beach strip of Mui Ne is about a 4-6 hour bus ride north from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). I decided to lay my head at the highly recommended Mui Ne Backpackers owned by an Australian named John Jenkins who married a local Vietnamese woman and never left the country.
One day I asked John how to get to the famous sand dunes.
“Which one” he replied?
Apparently there are two distinct sand dunes one can visit. The Red Sand Dunes are the closest to town and are the easiest ones to visit. The larger of the two, the White Sand Dunes are a little further out and features a little lake. John and his affable Australian personality recommended I take his sunset jeep tour. I am not a group tour type of guy so John set me up with a motorbike rental, a general map of the area and off I went to explore the White Sand Dunes.
I quickly discovered the map was a poor excuse for cutting down a tree. I drove for about 45 minutes outside of town and I could see the White Sand Dunes off in the distance, but could not find the road to cut across to them. So for about 90 minutes I burned a lot of petro just driving around in circles. Finally off in the distance I spotted a tourist van and I quickly a followed it out to the dunes.
We turned off the paved highway and onto a dirt road that was full of potholes, rocks and soft sand. Of those three obstacles, soft sand would be my enemy. At this point in my trip I had driven a motorbike in Malaysia, Thailand and in the wild, dirt roads of Laos. Driving a motorbike in Southeast Asia is by far best way to see the landscape and meet the locals, but I’ll be honest, it can be dangerous at times (if you spend any amount of time here you will see many young backpackers with scrapes, bruises, bandages all compliments of motorbike accidents). In my entire six months in Southeast Asia I never had an accident with the sole exception being my jaunt to the White Sand Dunes.
What happen?
So we bounced along the dirt road for a while and then out of nowhere a lake in the middle of this desert appeared on our left hand side. It was a sight of beauty. As we finally approached the entrance to the sand dunes a patch of soft sand appeared.
Rule #1 in motorbike riding: Keep a steady pace and drive in a straight line when riding over soft sand.
For some odd reason the van in front of me stopped abruptly (I can only assume that somebody wanted to take a photo). As a result, I quickly put my brakes on and lost traction in the soft sand. My motorbike began to wobble uncontrollably and I was heading to immediate disaster. I made the quick decision to just lay the bike down so I could come to an immediate stop. So I leaned to the left and just slid my bike on the soft sand.
Perfect landing!
No broken bones and the motorbike was intact. Laying down on the sandy road, I felt a burning sensation on the lower, inside part of my right calf. Apparently my right leg had made contact with a very hot motorcycle exhaust pipe. Two unfortunate events worked against me that day. One, the motorbike didn’t have a heat shield (some, not all, of the motorbikes I rented had them). Two, I didn’t wear long pants that day (I normally would wear them when I ride, but that day I wore shorts).
So here you have the White Sand Dunes of Mui Ne, Vietnam compliments of my Canon 5D Mark II and a slightly burnt right calf.
I still have a little scar on my right calf. Every now and then when I wear shorts people notice it and ask, “What happen there?”
I simply reply, “Vietnam!”
Check back for more of my adventures in Vietnam!
Happy Travels!

Tofuku-ji Temple, which was founded in 1236, is the head temple of the Tofuku-ji School of Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism. Tofuku-ji Temple is one of the most popular spots for Kyoto's beautiful autumn foliage.
The temple is also noted for its excellent dry landscape gardens arranged with a fine blend of moss and stones, which are located in the Hojo, the former living quarters of the head priest. The unique thing is that there are four gardens surrounding the Hojo in each direction.
This photo was taken at Southern garden, which is the main garden in front of the Hojo and composed of four rock groups symbolizing Elysian islands on the rough seas.

Skye 2009 Trip Day 4
A low viewpoint and with the wind blowing out to sea the camera stayed fairly dry as the tide came in. I fired off quite a few long(ish) exposures as the water retreated from my feet, some of the patterns this created were really unusual.
You are transported to the heart of the Caribbean Ocean, where an expansive canvas of deep blue waves unfolds. The vastness of the ocean is captured in its truest essence, with waves gracefully cresting and creating rhythmic patterns across the tranquil sea.
The rich, deep blue hues of the ocean create a sense of boundless serenity, inviting contemplation and awe. The photograph encapsulates the beauty of the open sea, where the horizon stretches infinitely, merging seamlessly with the clear blue sky. The cresting waves add a dynamic touch to the otherwise serene scene, capturing the fluidity and energy of the Caribbean waters.

I set off to Bronte Beach, Sydney on 13th Nov 2014 to see what the sunrise might offer. Although it was a hazy sunrise, the glow was magnificent and it was like the waves were playing games on the sand. So many pretty patterns were formed by the waves. The circular wave pattern here reminds me of a lady's flowing skirt whilst dancing.

I sat on Bronte Beach, Sydney at sunrise on 13th Nov 2014 watching the beautiful patterns the early morning waves were making on the sand.
The waves came gently rolling in, in this instance meeting in the middle, hence the name kissing waves.
