Abstract shot of a rose. Lit using a table lamp which is directly above the rose. I like the light and shadow in this shot, particularly the wavey pattern on the right of the rose.
Canon 1D Mk3 with 50mm f/1.8 lens at f/2.8. Adjusted for colour temperature, smart sharpened and 20% opacity gradient map applied in CS3.
I experimented crouching down low right on the water's edge, to catch a breaking wave coming in. Some were more challenging than others...

Hurricane Erin made a close enough pass to Cape Cod to push in some impressive surf. In these shots, the eye of the hurricane is around 350 miles to the South-East and making its turn to the North-East.
Although Thursday was the closest it would get, the waves would stick around all weekend, presenting themselves differently each day with changes in the wind and tides.

"Morning Report: Waves 6-8ft,swell S at 12 secs ,wind W-SW -SE 5-15 knots. Swells eased back a whisker but still pumping, clean lines from the S with a heap of power, winds light offshore then light sou easters for the afternoon. S facing beaches have still got 8 ft sets with bigger on offshore reefs, Looking like a golden day ahead but not for the faint hearted, check coastalwatch swell forecast."

Wind-driven waves at remote Carova Beach on North Carolina's Outer Banks. December 20, 2004 brought early snow followed by clearing, with 15 degree F temperatures, 40 MPH wind gusts, and sub-zero wind chill.
The Cassini spacecraft spies two types of waves in Saturn's A ring: a spiral density wave on the left of the image and a more pronounced spiral bending wave near the middle.See PIA10501 to learn more about these two kinds of waves. The slight pixelation visible near the brightest and darkest lines is an unavoidable result of the size of the camera's sensor and of image processing.This view looks toward the northern, sunlit side of the rings from about 21 degrees above the ringplane.The image was taken in visible green light with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on Jan. 11, 2010. The view was obtained at a distance of approximately 279,000 kilometers (173,000 miles) from Saturn and at a Sun-Saturn-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 18 degrees. Image scale is about 1 kilometer (1 mile) per pixel.The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were designed, developed and assembled at JPL.
