Together with tides, waves make the border between aquatic and land sea environment not so clear, creating an ecotone, where marine and terrestrial species may meet each other, of course when adapted to this particular conditions.

We should remember that the ecotonal zone is a common and rich part of the sea, even if looks so insignificant in front of open sea.

Waves were nice in Argentiera last December, clearly not small wavelets like those we observe here along the North Adriatic shore.

I am most pleased to have a small section in the cabinet of curiosities at the Exploratorium's Tinkering Studio. There on display are various bits and pieces of my 2003 VLCKR (very low coast KAP rig) cradle designed during a sabbatical spent as Artist-in-Residence at the museum. To complement the cradle artifacts I assembled a set of images to run on an iPad in the display as a continuous slide show.

Here they are. Many predate my Flickr days while others appear elsewhere in my Flickr photostream.

Waves, frozen near the shore of Lake Ontario

The waves seemed small, but would crash mightily once they reached shore.

Today was Bondi beach day, with a strawl from Bondi to Tamarama Beach and some serious rock climbing. Even a quick test of the sea, which was too cold and too wild. But, the kids tried, not everyday you get a chance to swim in the Pacific Ocean.
