This is another one of those wave photos that I like because it shows the wave just before it starts to curl over. I took this photo at Ocean City, MD on 6/29/2010.
I went for a walk along the esplanade at Cronulla at dusk last Sunday. The tide was very high, the surf was strong and the light was interesting.
The Wave, Coyote Buttes North, Arizona
I posted a "re-edit" of an earlier Wave shot yesterday, so I thought it only fitting to post a new one as well. As mentioned earlier, a snow storm the week before our arrival obscured about half of the Wave. The snow covered side walls precluded many of the iconic shots that you typically see from the Wave. In addition, even the shots that I did take where I tried for a more "typical" composition presented issues as much of the snow that remained on the ground was trampled and muddy. This was just such a shot that ultimately didn't work as originally planned because I found the ground covered by muddied snow too distracting. I was, however, able to pull out this shot, which is a pretty substantial crop from the original (that probably wouldn't have been possible without the D810's high megapixel count). Had I seen this at the time and taken this in camera, I am sure the file quality would be much better, but I am still pretty happy with how it turned out. I particularly like the contrast between the few small hints of snow and the vibrant reds and yellows in the slick rock.
This is another shot from my recent trip to the southwest with good friends (not to mention great photographers) Kevin Benedict and Sky Matthews. Please check out their sites as well.

riding the waves of my emotions today...HA!
Wish this one was better - but someday I will catch a good shot of a surfer the way I have envisioned it in my mind.
A crystal clear wave crashes on the beach at the Xpu-Ha Palace in Riviera Maya, August 2004. Taken with a Sony V-1 Point and Shoot.
Welly debut at Cocklawburn this morning - I can see that the combo of the 10-20 and wellies could easily become a dangerous one! Thanks to Jonathan for the msg "the sky is shaping up" which threw me out of bed and into jeans, jacket n wellies!
Tonnau mawr yn Nhrearddur ar ol llanw uchel.
Large waves at Trarddur, Anglesea after a very high tide.
This is Tor Bay, NS. We went here for a lunch by the sea one day. It was really hot and breezeless inland, but the breeze at the ocean was great. For this perspective, I was standing on a similar rock to the one pictured. It ran parallel to the one you see, allowing me to get in behind the breaking waves, but safely.
