The night in descending in front of the walls of the beautiful saxonian city of Bautzen (off course not only there). While the light of the sun is starting to fade away, one tower after the other is beginnung to shine. This is a moment when the face of a city is changing completely. So take Your time not only for a quick shot while passing by, but to watch this transformation entirely. Its worth it.
Die Nacht bricht an, vor den Mauern der
schönen Stadt Bautzen in Sachsen (und natürlich nicht nur da). Während das Licht der Sonne beginnt zu verblassen fängt ein Turm nach dem anderen an zu leuchten. Ein Moment, in dem sich das Erscheinungsbild einer jeden Stadt massiv verändert. So nimm Dir die Zeit, nicht nur für einen schnellen Schnappschuss im Vorübergehen, sondern um die Verwandung komplett zu beobachten. Es lohnt sich.
In the natural reserve of Rheinspitz at Lake Constance I found this construction where I have no idea for what its made for. Is this the border between swiss and austria ? If it is, its not really effective for a EU external border. Many waterbirds are not aware at all of this philisophical question and use this structure just as a sleeping place. I used it as decoration for an beautiful sunrise.
Im Naturschutzgebiet Rheinspitz am Bodensee bin ich auf diese Konstruktion gestoßen, von der ich keine Ahnung habe, welche Bedeutung sie eigentlich hat. Ist das die Grenze zwischen Österreich und der Schweiz ? Wenn sie das ist, dann ist sie für eine EU Aussengrenze nicht unbedingt effektiv. Viele Wasservögel scheinen sich der Tragweite dieser philosophischen und vielleicht weltpolitischen Frage kein Stück bewusst zu sein und nutzen dieses Bauwerk einfach als Schlafplatz. Ich habe es als Dekoration einen wunderschönen Sonnenaufgangs genutzt.

Kerala's water world is such a beautiful retreat. It is a world of quiet stillness with a touch of pastel sunrises.
There are several lakes around Lake Nakuru. I stayed on the banks of Lake Naivasha which had been taken over by papyrus plants and looked quite surreal. Then there was a smaller lake where this shot was taken. I don't recall being told the name of this small lake which had a good number of large seabirds.
The gate to the oldtown district of the beautiful city of Praque. Its busy and crowded here almost all the time. And so its really not easy to find a place, where you can be just on your own.

When I'm on a business trip, my camera is with me every time. Beforehand, I'm searching for interesting places near the route or near the final desitinations. I love this, because that way I coming to places what are usually to far away from home for a short visit. That’s how I came to lake Ammersee in bavaria, with it's beautiful beat houses, some weeks ago.
The downside of this strategy is, that I'm unable to plan light and weather conditions. So I wanted to shoot the sunset on that evening. Instead it was an approaching thunderstorm.
Wenn ich auf einer Dienstreise bin, ist meine Kamera immer mit dabei. Ich suche im Vorfeld nach interessanten Orten in der Nähe der Strecke oder in meinem Zielgebiet. Das finde ich wundevoll, denn so komme ich an Orten vorbei, die ansonsten zu weit von zu Hause entfernt sind, um einfach mal schnell hin zu fahren. So bin ich vor kurzem auch zum Ammersee in Bayern mit seinen interessanten Boothäusern gekommen.
Der Nachteil dieser Strategie ist, dass ich die Licht- und Wetterbedingungen nicht planen kann. So wollte ich eigentlich hier den Sonnenuntergang fotografieren. Statt dessen wurde es ein aufziehendes Unwetter.

False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It separates downtown from the rest of the city. It was named by George Henry Richards during his Hydrographic survey of 1856-63. George Richards named False Creek during his survey of the coast in the mid-19th century. While traveling along the south side of the Burrard Inlet, he thought he was traversing a creek; upon discovering his error, he gave the waterway its modern name. Wikipedia

Dinant is a wonderful Belgian city where you can relax on the waterfront. There on that beautiful waterfront you can really enjoy a spectacle in the old-fashioned way with the water of the river in a shining leading role. As you stare at the eternally living protagonist and mentally recoil with the waves when another beautiful boat sails by, the reflections of the clouds come to life in the water. The waves then resemble the beautiful long hair of the actress who plays the best supporting role of her life. You are the calm itself and it is as if you are floating through the air on a saxophone. Meanwhile, you take another sip of your ice-cold drink. You are immersed in the play that takes place before your eyes for free but with a imaginable handbrake on the saxophone of the invisible Mr. Sax, the theater piece suddenly comes to a stop. Then the play turn into a beautiful painting with the boats in the foreground. Those boats together really look like a harmonica. In your mind you hear a passionate music virtuoso playing a beautiful Belgian tune on that sailing harmonica while you take the last sip of the drink that tastes even better than ever before.

Dinant is een stad waar je heerlijk kunt ontspannen aan de waterkant. Daar aan die prachtige waterkant kun je echt nog ouderwets genieten van een schouwspel met het water van de rivier in een glanzende hoofdrol. Als je staart naar de eeuwig levende hoofdrolspeler en in gedachten mee deinst met de golven wanneer er weer eens een mooie boot voorbijvaart dan komen de reflecties van de wolken tot leven in het schilderachtige Dinant. De golven lijken daarna op het prachtige lange haar van de actrice die de bijrol van haar leven speelt naast hoofdrolspeler meneer water. Terwijl jij nog een slok van je ijskoude drankje neemt. Je gaat op in het theaterstuk dat zich gratis voor je ogen afspeelt en de reflecties van de groene heuvel aan de ene kant en de typische Belgische huizen aan de andere kant zorgen ervoor dat je zweeft van geluk op een saxofoon. Dat zweven kan helaas niet voorkomen dat het theaterstuk door het trekken van ene meneer Sax aan een denkbeeldige handrem op diezelfde saxofoon tot stilstand komt. Maar niet getreurd, want het schouwspel gaat hierdoor meteen over in een prachtig schilderij waarbij de bootjes op de voorgrond in elkaar opgaan als een echte harmonica. In gedachten hoor je een gepassioneerde straatmuzikant een prachtig deuntje spelen terwijl jij het laatste slokje neemt van het koude drankje dat nog lekkerder smaakt dan ooit tevoren.

A dreamlike sunset is about to start here above the city Bautzen.
The tower you see here is a masterpiece of engineering from the year 1558. To get enough of water pressure in the city a receiver tank in the tower top was filled with the help of a waterwheel powered pump. For that, the tower needed to be higher than the highest point in the city, what is by the way 47 meters. Already 100 years before here was a similar construction made of wood, what was destroyed by a fire. I was really impressed.

Der Turm der hier zu sehen ist, ist ein Meisterwerk der Ingenieurskunst aus dem Jahre 1558. Um ausreichend Wasserdruck in der Stadt zu haben, wurde hier mit einer durch ein Wasserrad angetriebenen Pumpe ein Sammelbehälter in der Spitze des vorderen Turms befüllt. Dafür musste die Turmspitze höher sein, als der höchte Punkt in der Stadt, was im Übrigen auf 47 Meter hinaus läuft. Bereits 100 Jahre früher gab es hier eine ähnliche Konstruktion aus Holz, welche jedoch einem Feuer zum Opfer fiel. Hat mich echt beeindruckt.

This year I found out, that it's quite complicated to shoot water lilies. In the noon time the light is, because of the reflection in the water much to bright, but once the sun is standing to low, ore not high enough yet, the blossoms are all closed. This is changing so fast that I needed three attempts to make that photograph.
In diesem Jahr ist mir bewusst geworden wie schwierig es ist Seerosen zu totografieren. In der Mittagszeit ist das Licht durch die Wasserspiegelungen zu grell, doch sobald die Sonne zu tief steht, oder noch nicht hoch genug steht, sind alle Blüten geschlossen. Das geht so unfassbar schnell, dass ich drei Anläufe gebraucht habe um das Foto hier zu machen.

For all those who thought that there was quite a lot of fog on the water when I took the photo of Kriebstein Castle yesterday, I have a view of another part of the river Zschopau, about 1 km away from the castle.
... I'll take a short break from writing so that everyone who hasn't seen yesterday's picture can do so now ...
This seems to be the source of the fog. The water steams continuously, as if it were boiling, and the brisk wind tears apart the mass of fog, spreads it over the water surface and drives it towards the castle. Where it's then dissolves piece by piece. At least that's what it looked like to me.
I wonder why it is precisely this point in the river that sets this cycle in motion.
Für alle die, die bei meinem gestrigen Foto von der Burg Kriebstein gemeint haben, da wäre ja ganz schön viel Nebel auf dem Wasser, habe ich hier noch einen Blick auf einen anderen Teil der Zschopau, ungefährt 1 km von der Burg entfernt.
... Ich mach mal eine kurze Pause mit dem Schreiben damit alle, die das Bild von gestern noch nicht gesehen haben, dies jetzt nachholen können …
Hier scheint die Quelle des Nebels zu sein. Das Wasser dampft ununterbrochen, als würde es kochen und der setige Wind zerreisst die Nebelmasse, breitet Sie über der Wasseroberfläche aus und treibt sie in Richtung Burg. Wo sie sich dann Stück für Stück auflöst. Zumindest hat das für mich so ausgesehen.
Ich frage mich, warum es gerade diese Stelle im Fluß ist, die diesen Kreislauf in Gang setzt.
