Determine which issues are most important, prioritize them, and manage time accordingly.

This image shows three different phases of

the visual project management class I have developed. I teach it several times a year at the University of the Arts Masters of Industrial Design program. Students learn various visual frameworks for making sense of and taking action regarding the complex projects they work on with industry partners.

From left to right: 1) Me demonstrating one particular kind of diagram 2) Students practicing drawing icons with each other (and me) 3) Students communicating aspects of their projects with other students.

This hand drawn sketch is one of a collection of my visual thinking artifacts.

It's a sketchnote about Seth Godin's point about the appropiate role of schools.

This image is like graphic chitchat, the random things we may discuss if meeting in person before diving into business.

From a mini-workshop I led for Boston area higher education technologist. "Harnesssing Visual Thinking for Project Planning." Great group with folks from Brandeis, Wellesley, Harvard, Brandeis, Tufts, Wheaton College, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Thanks to David G. Wedaman of Brandeis for being the point man in coordinating the event!

Which, alas, I'm not using much.

Increasingly, I find that I think of my chalk board in terms of multiple layers of information. The center part is me writing a paragraph answering the question at the top, and the right hand side is the framework or rubric that I'm using to write this paragraph. The left (out of sight) is the special schedule for tomorrow), and above it is the date in Mayan, Chinese, and English.
