Sarah Lucas the 50 year old British Artist who emerged as part of the generation of Young British Artists during the 1990s. Lucas’s works frequently employs visual puns and bawdy humour, includes photography, collage and found objects. Lucas has been profiled by Christina Patterson for the Independent titled ‘Sarah Lucas: A Young British Artist grows up and speaks out’. Patterson states in the article “[Lucas] says, never been someone for make-up. She has, in fact, had fun not using her femininity because people find it so odd. At the Groucho club, where the YBAs used to hang out, she'd stare at the women in their summer dresses and perfume, flirting with men, and enjoy the fact that she wasn't. You realise, she says, that you've got some other charisma. You can say that again. It's quite rare to meet a heterosexual woman who's making no attempt at all to make herself attractive to men, but who – how shall I put this? – radiates sex. But it's also quite hard to think of an artist whose work is so much about it. …This is what Sarah Lucas does. She takes… ordinary things …and she does something to them that can actually make you blush. She doesn't just take ordinary objects and say they're art. Quite a lot of the YBAs, and the people they have influenced, do. They seem to think that if you say something's art it's art, and if you say something's shocking, it is. They seem to forget that the person to decide whether something's shocking, or powerful, or moving, isn't the person who made it.” Inspired by Christina Patterson ow.ly/d0GVb image source Facebook ow.ly/d0Hzc
For those of you not as ancient as myself, Patrick McGoohan was an actor who turned down the role of James Bond on morality grounds. Later he starred in a British spy series called "Secret AGENT Man" and later in the surreal series "The Prisoner". The theme song is featured in the other frame. You can hear the song on You Tube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXGAif4dKhs

To Take One", it says. A rather rude weathered leaflet holder (sans leaflets) on the outer wall of my car garage, Kyoto. A companion photo, perhaps, to 'Rusted Root' at www.flickr.com/photos/jfa/24791552 ? Looks friendly, mind you, don't you think?

Group project: Create an advertising campaign for Sharpie markers.
We should have been working on the project all semester, yet we did it all in this past week. Did you know that Sharpie markers come in 39 different colors and 19 different styles? Well, I sure did. I've got Sharpies coming out my ears.
Side note: I don't like group projects.
Art piece by Lyle Nichols -- Hole in the Rock, Grand County, Utah. I love visual puns like this one.
A rather unremarkable photograph; I took it to alter, but then I had to post it after the unintended visual pun dawned on me: Yamaha and Honda are the two top recognizable Jap bikes...and of course Yamaha also makes guitars, which is the brand mine is, and I just now got that I have a Yamaha and a Honda in my garage together. LOL Okay, maybe not, but I thought it was funny.
Assignment 2. Visual Joke or Pun. So many of us play with this each week. Make us laugh with your image. Tag with cwd152.
Don't look too long at my chubby fingers - okay?!

I'm OK, at least according to the good folks at the entrance to the home improvement show last weekend. Man, you can't believe what this does to my self-esteem.

this photograph is another installment in my visual pun series (explained here: flickr.com/photos/drwhimsy/2319710827/ ) and my weekly submission as an "agent" for Mission 24 group
No, not a wood carving at all apart from a little bit chiselled out of the top to hold the mirror. Having been faced with doing a 'reflective log' for a course (MOST intercultural facilitation and mediation with Mediation Northern Ireland) I decided to make one as well as write one.....this is made with a firewood log.
Oh, what fun you can have with a dusty rocking chair when your parents steal your kids for the day!

Not an installation - but a photo of the now-empty booths that once held pay phones in MOCA's basement.
A full day after posting this - I just realized that it spells MOOT. Fortuitously funny.

For those of you who saw this at the side of the last photo but did not get a chance to fully comprehend the pun, here it is on its own. Just one of many visual puns that jump into my head during conversations or statements on TV...
As always, thanks for your views, comments and faves!
"cwd322: Self-Portrait With Camera - We've all seen the lazy self-portrait where the photographer points his camera at a mirror and clicks the shutter button. The challenge here is to take a photograph of yourself taking a photograph of yourself...and find a way to make it interesting." (emphasis added . . . and yes, this picture WAS taken 'with a camera')
Okay, I know this wasn't exactly what we were assigned, but it was too good an idea to leave alone. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
