Took this based on a photo posted today by @dibytes where she made note of how focal length can make a difference in what you see. Then, before choosing to post this image, I read a blog entry by @susanvg in which she observes how a photo can be visualized in many ways, and can tell a bit of story. I see different images here. What do you see?

This image visualizes the discovery of asteroids from 1801 to 1950. The Solar System is shown in a logarithmic scale to allow both the main asteroid belt and Kuiper objects to be shown. Asteroids are shown in the position of their perihelion. This makes it easier to separate the various families.

I also plotted the histogram of how many minor planets were discovered each year, the semi-major axis, and excentricity on the right panels. The left panels show the excentricity and inclination as a function of semi-major axis, this is again to show how the various asteroid families were defined based on their orbits.

Firmas.lv: Using ZoomCharts’ Pie Graph for Latvian Business Exploration

ZoomCharts line of advanced data visualization software lets you take ordinary data and turn it into an exciting way to dive deeper into vast amounts of information. Present data in fully interactive charts that work on all modern devices, including touch screen devices, work with massive data sets, and do it all at incredibly fast speeds and unmatched performance with ZoomCharts. As the world’s leading interactive data visualization software, ZoomCharts offers the most efficient tools to let you organize and tweak data presentation with seamless transitions.

ZoomCharts pie charts are ideal for presenting big data in a simple manner. You present only the information you want to see, and drill down further to expand on information and go deeper with a simple click. This is why Latvian website Firmas chose ZoomCharts to explore and present industry statistics with a pie chart.

Firmas produces the Latvian Business Annual Report, which explores business statistics. Firmas used a ZoomCharts pie chart to present Latvian business net turnover share for 2013, which included industries such as forest, production, agriculture, construction, retail, energy, transport, logistics and transportation, real estate, IT and computers, tourism, hospitality and entertainment, services, telecommunications, media, advertising, education and creative industries, medicine and pharmacy, food and beverage, and financial, legal, and business services.

With ZoomCharts’ interactive pie charts, a variety of options are available to let users fully customize their viewing experience:

3. Click on data sets to drill down even further.

Check out ZoomCharts products:

Bernoulli's Pricipal: An increase in the velocity of a fluid causes a decrease in pressure.

Lower pressure also creates a lower temperature. When the temperature is below the dew point, water vapor in the air condensates.

Keeping these facts in mind, we can see the vortices where the air is spinning at high velocity (think tornado) coming from the wingtips as well as from generators on the engines. We can also see less intense condensation due to the low pressure on the top of the wing that is lifting this 500,000lb aircraft off he ground. Notice more condensation inboard near the fuselage. This is from the distribution of pressure (and hence lift) over the span wing. More lift inboard, less towards the tips.

At the tips, the difference in pressure above and below the wing causes the air to want to flow around the tip from bottom to top. As the wing moves forward, the air is left swirling around in a vortex where the wing was. Having less lift at the tips means a smaller pressure difference and a weaker vortex. The curve at the end of the wing provides a barrier between the areas of low and high pressure on the bottom and the top of the wing respectively reducing the vortex strength and/or allows more lift to be produced further out on the wing without creating a stronger vortex. This is important because the stronger the vortex, the more the induced drag (drag due to lift).

As for the why vortex generators on the engines, that goes beyond my basic areodynamics background. Likely due to complex interaction between the airflow around the engines, pylons and the wing itself.
