I was up very early to watch the dawn spread across this landscape at Lower Kananaskis Lake. After 50 minutes - and well over 100 frames - the rising sun had painted the mountain tops just so. The air was still, the quiet all-encompassing, except when some ducks took flight with wind-whistling wingbeats and a few soft quacks.

I didn't change lenses once during this period. It's something I like to try occasionally - see what I can do with a single lens. Of course, the lens I chose was a 14-24mm, so in reality I had multiple focal lengths at my disposal. Still, the viewpoint had to be wide angle, and the more I worked with this the better I felt about what I was getting.

I did keep an eye out for bears; they like this part of the lake shore. But it seemed they were all higher up the slopes, feeding on soapberries and other fall staples. My camping neighbour told me he saw 37 bears in the area in July and August, when they were working the valley bottoms (and he got out his cell phone to show me).
