The third and final test sheet of 7302 and probably my favourite of the entire test. While I found the times for ASA-1.5, this sheet, rated at ASA-3 is my favourite.

Photographed with a Zeiss Ikon Maximar 9X12cm camera. The film is expired French made Kodak Super-XX Nitrate film. I don't have an expiration date but I know nitrate film has not been made for decades. The film was for Tri-Color Photography. I developed it in Kodak HC-110 Dilution B for 5 minutes with some Benzotriazole to help reduce fog.

This church originally was build of wood in 1123 while crossridders went to Jerusalem, After 1603 catholicism was forbidden by reformers until 1891 when the church became to narrow and a stonen neogotic cathedral was build and in 1892 reconsaced by the archbishop of Utrecht. In 1974 a beautiful carillon was installed.

I had the Deardorff out for a trip to Hood River last month. We had some nice clouds, and a small cloudcap over the mountain. Someone from Panorama Lodge stopped by to geek out about the 83 year-old camera, and I was happy to oblige.

Camera: Deardorff 8x10

Lens: 19" Gerz APO Artar with a yellow filter.

Film: Ilford FP4+ developed by Blue Moon Camera in Saint Johns.

This scene has such a magical dream-like quality to it for me. The leaves on the trees glow and almost seem disconnected like they are floating in space like a cloud of glowing fairies. As I made this image, I stood beneath an overhanging weeping wall covered in dripping water, wrapping over me like a cave. The trees were illuminated by sunlight filtering into the depths of the canyon from above and reflected light filled the colossal majestic space.

Details:

This image is a 0.8% sized export of an 180MP scan from a large format film image made on Fuji Velvia 100 with The Intrepid Camera Co. 4x5 Field Camera and my Schneider-Kreuznach 90mm Æ’/8 Super-Angulon lens. 10am, 8s @ Æ’/32, CPL

In other words, this thing will print to 40x50 inches with enough quality that you can put your face right up to it with a magnifying glass and only see more detail. These large format film images contain approximately 20x the level of detail of my digital images made with current generation DSLRs, and I've printed those to 40x60" with good results! This is one of many reasons I am now working in large format film instead of digital. I also prefer the aesthetic qualities of these films. Additionally, the experience of working with the silent elegant simplicity a wooden view camera in the field is so much better than dealing with scrolling menus, flickering lights, and glowing screens while in the wilderness.

By all means, zoom in and pan around. I don't make these things to be consumed as thumbnails!

bigger version (3600px).

I used a cut dark slide to shoot 4x10 format on the 150mm lens which fitted the scene nicely, this was shot from my usual spot more as an exercise to get to know the lenses better.

Development was dome with ADOX Rodinal at 1+50 dilution and scanned on an Epson V850 flatbed with Silverfast.

Agfa Universal View 5x7 camera circa 1940, Caltar Pro Series 210mm, f/32 at 1/8th second, Tmax-100 developed in Stoeckler's Two-Bath, four minutes each bath, using a Stearman SP-810 tray.

It seems there is a minor light leak at right top? Time to recheck all the bellows patches!

UPDATE: the bellows are cracking all over the folds! Yikes. I haven't used this camera outside of the studio for maybe 5 or 6 years; in the studio I have the habit of keeping the darkcloth over the camera at all times. The tube-style darkcloth I use outdoors can't perform the same service when it comes to shielding the bellows from light. Some maintenance work lies ahead.
