I left work early to make the most of the fading sun. At the train station, the decorative fountains had been turned off in preparation for the freezing temperatures we are expecting tonight. While I was trying to decide an approach to capturing the still water in the pools below the fountains, I stumbled across an air vent with an unusual herringbone pattern. It made for a good abstract image with a shallow depth of field.
Mangrove Rat who has this area as her backyard & mijoli who loves everything lighthouse may like this (found whilst tidying up today).
Inactive since 1917 it " was built at the end of the Port Germein Jetty, then Australia's longest at 1680 m (1.04 mi). (Storm damage has shortened the jetty to 1532 m or 0.95 mi.) In 1975 the long-abandoned tower was relocated to a point onshore near the foot of the jetty and restored by the Port Germein Village Museum."

Construit en 1719, en opération jusqu'en 1866. Maintenant la propriété de la Ville de Montréal.
Classé bien culturel en 1982.
Entière restauré en 2007-2008, avec ailes et rouet. Les mécanismes n'ont pas été reconstitués.

Étages : 3 en plus du rez-de-chausée
Diamètre : 18 pieds (5,5 mètres) à la base; 16 pieds (4,9 m) dans sa partie supérieure
Non ouvert au public.
Le moulin à vent de Pointe-aux-Trembles est l'un des plus anciens moulins du Québec à subsister.
This rambling industrial site was at the forefront of fullers earth production until 1996 when it's gates shut for the last time. Fullers earth is used worldwide with uses as diverse as filter medium, treatment for chemical weapon wounds, special effects explosions in films and the processing of wool fibres in the textiles industry. So much more than just Kitty Litter!

The Vents by the artist Thomas Heatherwick who designed the "B of the Bang" in Manchester for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the British Pavilion for the Shanghai Expo 2010. This sculpture interestingly functions as ventilation towers for an electricity power sub-station underground.

A total of twelve vent units will be installed in the end, each one about the height of a two story building and a little over six feet wide. The idea is to open the vents to the nighttime air so the air temperature inside the dome can come to nighttime temp as quickly as possible.
A prototype vent is being installed to test the vent, the installation procedure, and our control system. Once any bugs we run into are ironed out, the remaining vents will be installed.
Moulin à vent situé sur la route 138 dans l'arrière cour d'un particulier à Repentigny. Selon un habitant de la ville, il aurait été incendié à l'interieur mais est tout de même intacte à l'exterieur.
