Matthew Buckland works for Robert Heath Heating, just outside London. He recently attended a customer’s property to service a cooker, as shown in this colleague’s photo. Staggeringly, the cooker was still connected and still regularly used by the occupant of the house. We were a little more

than shocked.

The Yellow-vented Bulbul, Pycnonotus goiavier, is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is resident breeder in southeast Asia from southern Thailand and Cambodia south to Borneo and the Philippines.

It is found in a wide variety of open habitats, but not deep forest. It is one of the most common birds in cultivated areas. They appear to be nomadic, roaming from place to place regularly.

The Yellow-vented Bulbul builds a well-camouflaged but fragile, loose, deep, cup-shaped nest from grass, leaves, roots, vine stems, and twigs. The nest is untidy on the outside, but it is neatly lined with plant fibers. It may be built in a wide range of places from low bushes to high trees. This is a species adapted to humans and may even nest in gardens. The Yellow-vented Bulbul lays 2-5 eggs in February to June.

The Yellow-vented Bulbuls eats berries and small fruits. They also sip nectar, nibble on young shoots, and take some insects.

The Yellow-vented Bulbuls raises and lowers the crown crest as they sing.

The TARDEC Propulsion Laboratory created a fuel environmental management program with the goal of reducing the Propulsion Lab’s potential fuel impact to the environment. A new cement pad was put in place, along with a new, weather-protected secondary containment for the building’s fuel vent system.

Four photos from day two of the prototype vent installation on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope dome.

A total of twelve vent units will be installed in the end, each one about the height of a two story building and a little over six feet wide. The idea is to open the vents to the nighttime air so the air temperature inside the dome can come to nighttime temp as quickly as possible.

A prototype vent is being installed to test the vent, the installation procedure, and our control system. Once any bugs we run into are ironed out, the remaining vents will be installed.

I promised yesterday that I would be posting more pictures of the Fimmvörðuháls volcano.

So without further ado I present to you: A close-up of the lava inside the Fimmvörðuháls volcano's active vent. It was taken a split-second after the lava shot up; you can still see a large lava bubble bursting violently. The photo was taken from about 150 metres way.

There are at least three more pictures worth showing. I will post them over the next few days, but I will save the best photo for last.

PS: I hate shooting at ISO1000. It just feels like a very unnatural ISO number.

The shadow of my building against the building behind mine, late in the afternoon.

Redfield Bridge and Tile Works Plant. This plant started as Goodwin & Meyers Brick and Tile Co in 1894 and kept this name until 1901, The plant was started with major financial resources to insure it would be around for years to come. Face bricks from this plant are used in Pioneer Seed Corn plant in Coon Rapids and many of the Iowa State University Buildings in Ames. Production seems to have stopped around the early 70's after the original family sold out interest in the company.

All that remains on the surface of the St Paul's GCC, which utilised some of the disused parts of St Paul's/Post Office station.

The Vents by the artist Thomas Heatherwick who designed the "B of the Bang" in Manchester for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the British Pavilion for the Shanghai Expo 2010. This sculpture interestingly functions as ventilation towers for an electricity power sub-station underground.
