My maple syrup production is almost over for this year and it has been one of the best I've ever had. From 9 taps in 5 trees I have harvested 51+ gallons (830 cups) of sap and produced 1.94 gallons of syrup. I was able to get the taps in to harvest the super sweet early sap which really helped in the sap to syrup ratio. Yes, I still have the spiles out but the sap run is very slow.
I probably will pull them late next week.

This is my corner veggie garden...the greenhouse and raised beds produce lots of delights...the cloche cover over one bed is to help mitigate our infamous ocean side cool summers. The beds are planted intensively to use the space to maximize production....the foreground bed is a new planting of Dahlias. The orange cover is to prevent it from being a cat litter box until the plants emerge.
I certainly like food..even been known to enjoy the odd Masterchef episode now and again... but there are soooo many cookery programs on air right now that there must be a fair few eligible for Room 101. Having said that my daughter is snowed in from college today and the kitchen is now full of home baked cookies - all thanks to BBC's 'Home Cooking Made Easy'...Happy days!
i spend a weekend at my parents' house, and mother made me chirashizushi (literally means "scattered sushi"; a bowl of sushi rice with cooked vegitables mixed in). i cut all vegitables and egg. mother said i look so awkward, and she was worried that i might cut my fingers. it seems like i still look like a little child to her eyes! ( btw, i forgot to put shrimps on the top)

The "mamak mee goreng" is a favourite hawker dish found all over Malaysia. In its basic form, it is yellow noodles fried with bean sprouts, bean curd, egg, choice of meat, vegitable (and, or potatoes), seasoning of spices and served with lime.
