Vincent van Gogh a toujours eu des affinités avec les gens simples. Beaucoup de ses peintures et croquis de la période de Nuenen ainsi que ses copies des œuvres de Jean-François Millet ont pris les ouvriers et les paysans comme sujets. Si le portrait du berger Patience Escalier montre qu'il n'a pas changé sur ce point, en termes de style, ce tableau marque cependant une rupture radicale avec le travail de la période de Nuenen.
Dans une lettre à Théo (F520), Vincent écrit "... Je reviens aux idées que j'avais avant que l'impressionnisme". S'il s'y réfère toujours, il mentionne expressément que sa peinture revenait sur la période antérieure à son arrivée à Paris. Pendant les deux ans où il a vécu avec son frère à Paris Vincent a connu les grands artistes de l'époque, notamment P Gauguin, T Lautrec, C Pissarro et G Seurat. Mais il veut aujoiurd'hui aller au-delà de ce qu'il a pu apprendre des impressionnistes.
L'utilisation de la couleur dans Le premier Portrait de Patience Escalier (cf. ci-dessous) est inhabituelle et hardie. Dans une lettre à Emile Bernard (B15), il écrit : "Cette fois encore, la couleur suggère l'air étouffant de la récolte dans le milieu de la journée, à la mi-été, sans que ce soit une image différente" :

Ce portrait ne donne pourtant pas tout à fait l'impression de chaleur et du soleil de plomb que l'on pourrait attendre de sa description. Quand le vieux paysan a été persuadé de poser à nouveau quelques semaines plus tard (F 444 du 29 Août), Vincent n'a plus vraiment réussi à atteindre ce qu'il avait eu à l'esprit. Le plus frappant ne sont plus cette fois les rouge et orange du visage, mais le jaune vif du chapeau de paille et le ciel bleu profond (cf. vggallery.com).

These vans were old Post Office workhorses and can be traced all around the country. This one served it's time in Scotland which is why it probably ended up in the Rothiemurchus Forest. I've just framed this for my Dad. Funny what you find when you start looking.
Where have all the early FORD Econolines gone, talking second gen here and now nary a one been seen, yeah they are approaching 50 yrs old but ours was this color, E300 HD everything and panels all around.anybody got one???

Another battle scarred Matchbox model from my childhood in the early 1980's. An era when I could walk down to the local Post Office and peer through its bay window covered in old style illustrated Matchbox boxes just waiting to be bought.
Their Chevrolet G20 based van had a very long and illustrious life being used as a base for this 4x4 version, a Tow Truck and then being resurrected in the 2000's as a standard height panel van. An all metal body and baseplate gives it a feeling of invincible robustness and probably explains why so many of them survive to this day.

A very clean looking van which Realtoy have produced since the early 1990's starting off as a Mobile TV van which no doubt was a copy of the original Matchbox equivalent and since progressing to more of an Emergency type vehicle. The Matchbox was a bona fide Mercedes product whilst the Realtoy has somehow managed to survive as an unlicensed casting despite its more than obvious parentage! This Fire Dept. Rescue Unit version had a brief life at Tesco back in March 2016 where predictably I managed to pick up one or two before it was replaced by a rather slick Police recolour. Mint and boxed.

We bezoeken het antieke Nemea, het heiligdom van de Nemeïsche Zeus. Volgens de mytische overlevering heeft Heracles daar de Nemeïsche leeuw gewurgd en zijn als herinnering aan die heldendaad de Nemeïsche spelen gesticht. Deze werden elke twee jaar in panhelleens verband in het cipressenbos van het Heilige gebied gehouden.
Nemea (Grieks: Νεμέα) is een plaats en gemeente (dimos) in de voormalige Griekse nomos Korinthe, in de Griekse bestuurlijke regio (periferia) Peloponnesos, en gelegen op ca. 5 km van de gelijknamige antieke stad Nemea.
Het antieke Nemea raakte bekend, niet alleen door de mythe van Herakles die hier de zogenaamde leeuw van Nemea zou gedood hebben, maar ook in historische tijden, door de Nemeïsche Spelen die hier om de twee jaar plaatsvonden.
De bezienswaardigheden en het museum van het oude Nemea zijn opmerkelijk door de zorgvuldigheid waarmee de opgravingen zijn uitgevoerd en toegankelijk gemaakt. Deze opgravingen worden gedomineerd door een negental resterende Dorische zuilen van een Hellenistische (330-320 v.Chr.) Zeustempel. Slechts drie van de negen zuilen zijn altijd blijven staan, de andere zes zijn gereconstrueerd met de oorspronkelijke delen. Ook het 500 m oostwaarts gelegen stadion van de Nemeïsche Spelen is goed gerestaureerd, en het overzichtelijke museum toont een maquette van de opgravingen en interessante archeologische vondsten.

Truck parked over in side yard of a house in the Harris Plant Mill Houses . Haven't ever seen on the road around here. There is only one I have seen and the guy comes up from Augusta in the summertime driving through the neighborhoods.
We had Carvel coming around when I was a kid. I loved their white refrigerated truck, bells and ice cream. That was a big treat in our day.
