The Temple of Literature ( Van Mieu ), dedicated to Confucius, was founded in 1070 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong.

In 1076, Vietnam's first university was established here to educate Vietnam's administrative and warriors class. Parts of the university date from this earlier time period although the large complex has undergone many changes over the centuries. But recent archaeological study indicates that the architecture of this site belongs primarily to the Ly (1010-1225) and Tran (1225-1400) Dynasties. The complex is in a tranquil park-like site in the heart of central Hanoi.

This was the most tricked out van - nay, vehicle - that I've ever stumbled upon.

The scene: a Sunday evening in the neighborhood, this gentleman (a drummer, naturally, handing his flyer to Julie after we stopped - mouths agape), pictured in a sweet white pin-striped suit, his ride rumbling like a beast in a bus stop.

The van: Midnight black exterior, with an extra axle added in the rear(!), red/black checked leather interior with pink accent lighting, multiple screens and rear-view camera, bar, and many plush seats and couches upon which to enjoy the, uh, ride.

I would have snapped more shots, but Night Camera was too overwhelmed by the beauty of this van after only two pics, and crashed the iPhone. I would have loved to have gotten a shot of the rear and the added axle.

Another in the series of van pictures featuring Julie - I should have been careful, this man was a sweet-talker.

Citroën HY van, near Goult, Provence, France

Citroën HY vans were built between 1947 and 1981. The distinctive corrugated body work was inspired by German Junkers (Aircraft) of the 1930s, the three engined Junkers Ju 52, being the last to use this construction. The ribs added strength without adding weight, and required only simple, low cost press tools. The doors are rear hinged.
