Not a modeller, but I have indulged myself. I enjoyed being a train guard as a young bloke in my early 20s, and for years have been thinking of buying models of brakevans that I worked in. I have finally started, with a pair of HO scale models of MHG (later NVMF) brakevans (aka guard's vans). The MHGs were were the most numerous class of brake van on the NSWR in the 1970s. They were built in England by Metropolitan Cammell, imported in kit form and assembled by Clyde Engineering in the early 1950s. They were a steel bodied van, their design was based on the earlier timber-bodied PHG brakevan. In the mid 1960s they were modified, indcluding provision of LPG gas for heating and cooking (gas burner ring), access provided for the guard to the passenger compartment toilet and washbasin, replacement of ducket lookouts with mirror lookouts, and provision of passenger-style roller bearing bogies.
This is one of the two model MHGs I bought, configured per the early to mid 1970s. I didn't notice at the time, but the rather delicate marker light had been bent.
