Duty. The second of the Army Values. Fulfill your obligations. Doing your duty means more than carrying out your assigned tasks. Duty means being able to accomplish tasks as part of a team. The work of the U.S. Army is a complex combination of missions, tasks and responsibilities — all in constant motion. Our work entails building one assignment onto another. You fulfill your obligations as a part of your unit every time you resist the temptation to take “shortcuts” that might undermine the integrity of the final product.

Right from the beginning, Lladró has been adding new creations to its extensive body of work year after year. Other pieces have made way for them and are no longer available in catalog. Besides their intrinsic artistic merit their estimonial value makes them especially attractive. Here we offer you a journey through the Lladró Historical Catalog. www.andorrart.com/blogdart/

Every Lladró piece of work is the result of a laborious artistic process. Sculptors follow their own inspiration but also perform, if the work requires it, a meticulous process of research and documentation. This is often the case with pieces or collections that reflect other cultures.

www.andorrart.com/blogdart/ Every Lladro creation begins with an artistic inspiration. The sculptor then makes the first sketch of the new figure in clay, which is examined and approved by the Creativity Committee, made up by many members, one of whom comes from the Lladró family. The sketch, in clay, is reproduced in plaster to provide the first mold, which will in turn become the definitive mold for the porcelain figurine. www.andorrart.com/blogdart/

I like to do quick value sketches on location before starting a painting. Its a tremendous help in planning the basic structure and exploring what’s important in the scene. Traditionally artists have used pencil, charcoal, or ink to draw value sketches. I thought I’d explore using the iPod Touch instead. It’s the right size – screen size is about 2 x 3 inches which is the size I usually make in a sketchbook. It’s also handy. It fits in my shirt pocket and I always have it with me and I already use it to take reference photos.

I experimented with several different painting apps. I first used Sketch Club which I like because I can make custom brushes and it has an eight step grayscale color palette. I also tried ArtRage and Sketchbook Mobile, but rejected them. ArtRage on the iPod creates files which are too small and Sketchbook has too clumsy an interface. I really like Procreate on the iPad, but the iPad is too big to carry around conveniently. The best was Brushes. It makes nice large files and you can playback a movie of your painting process.

You can see a Brushes movie, a slideshow, and read more about value sketches on my blog: www.jimblodget.com/blog/value-sketches/ .

The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.

It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.

Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

UM System President Tim Wolfe launched his "Show Me Value" tour in Moberly, Mo., on March 8 as part of his effort to promote the value of higher education and counter growing sentiment that a college degree is not as valuable as it once was.

The absolute value function worked out perfectly. It did not completely come together at the bottom so i had to make the y-intercept -2.

In mid-May 2017, a values workshop was held as part of the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative in Panama.

The workshop focussed on some 233 students between pre-kindergarten and second grade, with the aim of promote values such as integrity and honesty, as well as the tools and guides needed to face obstacles, take decisions and act responsibly in diverse social contexts.

The protagonists of the educational material, Dogui and Dengoso, surprised the children with their visit, being received in each classroom with much affection.

After the workshop, Professor Griselda Pérez de Warren, Principal of the School, along with her 447 pupils participated in a cultural event on education in values. Students of each grade delighted the audience with their talent. Finally, the dogs of the National Police dog unit astonished everyone with their abilities, closing this enriching day with laughter and applause!

Even on a grey wall there can be a lot of variation in light, texture, and value.

Even grey days have their ups and downs. I like the places where the light catches just right and that portion becomes illuminated.

Easthampton is one of many industrial communities that need to find a use for its industrial facilities after the Industry has vamoosed.

"Eastwork" is a pretty cool place. The ground floor is commercial/retail space. The next level up are studios and offices. And the top level is all apartments. Many artists commute to work just by getting dressed and moving down a flight of stairs.

The value gear mechanism on a Geo. H. Corliss engine preserved at the New England Wireless and Steam Museum.

The Corliss engines were among the most efficient double-acting piston steam engines ever built. George Corliss built them in Providence, RI. They used Poppet valves and the beautiful mechanism shown here which was part of the constant speed regulation system.

The green on the right is a portion of the very large flywheel. The flywheel was used to reduce the speed fluctuations caused by non-uniform power applied by the piston - especially when the engine was lightly loaded and the cutoff was advanced by the governor.

This engine is run on steam periodically.
