Oooh, waterfall
This July, I ended up spending a fair bit of time in the mountains... for some value of mountains. First, I went to YAPC::NA::2011, in Asheville, NC, USA -- not far from Mt. Mitchell, which at 6,684 ft (2,037 m) is the highest point in the eastern united states, the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, which were, as I like to say, already old when Dinosaurs roamed the earth. (I just checked, Wikipedia says that the mountains were the highest in the world about 460M years ago, and dinosaurs were 230-65 M years ago).
Anyway, this isn't from the Appalacians. This is from the Lake District, where the mountains... er, hills, are rather shorter... but from what I've seen thus far, more picturesque. (The highest peak in the area is Scafell Pike, 978 m (3,210 ft).)
MDK, Leigh, Ben, Leigh's mother Linda, castaway, and I took a fun walk along a path in the area, and eventually to this lovely waterfall and pool. Each of the others stopped a fair bit before the pool... I naturally went as far as I possibly could. The fall you can see here, by the by, is the smaller half of a two-stage waterfall. The other half is in one of my other photos. I was going to take a shot of it from the top, but would have had to very carefully pick my way across the wet rocks... which I wanted to do, but didn't want to leave everybody else waiting for me!
