I could use this one both for Happy Fence Friday and Happy Bench Monday and given Monday is a busy day for me, I will split it! HFF and HBM in advance!
Locals in Brisbane who regularly use the now famous Nudgee Beach (!) for photography will recognise this as the boardwalk through the mangroves which draws a large circle around the wetlands that line the beach. One side follows this creek which seems to be unnamed (the next two north are Nundah and Cabbage Tree Creeks respectively). The boardwalk has some nice little benches to rest awhile and consider the importance of the mangroves to the environment and ecology of Moreton Bay, knowing that mangroves are one of the best carbon sinks in nature.

The beach itself is actually along the track behind me, still a kilometre or so before you get to access it easily, but this also passes a bird hide and some great spots to see colourful crabs emerging from their holes in the mud along the way. The creek is used for school groups and others canoeing and ends in a wetland area below a major water transfer station.

Dearest journal, it's me again Tythos.
A lot has happened since i last had time to write, so our friend mister Whisper told my friends an i we should go to school and learn some stuff about the weird buildings that sometimes show p after the ground shakes. so we did, getting there was hard, and required us to swim, we puts the door to a school in a lake? stupid magic people.
so we get in and there is this weird trapped room that sets us on fire and freezes us and stuff, it hurt a lot, so i shot an arrow at the machine in the middle, it broke and a big stone monster with horns came out.... oops, my fault. after we killed it i took it's horns, because stupid meanies don't deserve horns!
we finally make it to the school it's self. we are shown out rooms, they were weird and creepy, fun though, then some weird stuff happened, we were told to go to the fey wild, which sounded like lots of fun! but my friend Fredrick couldn't go, the door kept closing on him. so i used one of my special arrows to send him to the fey wild, cause i can do that some times. he came back and said there was an evil version of him that tried to kill him! how mean!
The teacher came in and asked what happened, so we told him, he didn't believe me, so i shot him! you know, to send him to the fey wild too, he was on fire when he came back, evil Frederick had friends this time and they beat mister teacher up! then he told me the fey wild is too dangerous and i'm not alot to use my banishing magic anymore. then sir Whisker used some of his weird brain magic on the teacher, i don't remember why, but the teacher didn't like that, so he punished the whole group with the job of recruiting more magic people.
We left the school and we about to start handing out the flyers, but Cassandra saw a bird and chased it! understandable, i do that sometimes too. it's fun! but when we caught up to her she was fighting a big lizard with five heads! there was a snake lady there too she wasn't very nice, she said Cassandra was competing in a contest, but it wasn't a fair contest and i hate cheaters! so i jumped in as did my other friends! i killed the lizard! Cassie called it a "hydra" then my bow did that weird thing it sometimes does and shot some weird beam at the snake lady, she froze up and fell to the ground. we tried to ask why she was being mean, but a bird landed near her and shot her with magic lightning and she died, how rude!
when we got back to the town there was a party! i love parties! there was dancing, and food and wine! and i fought and beat the towns toughest fighter in hand to head combat! then the party ended when some people from the school showed up, the magistrate he called himself was very nosy and snobby, Cassandra talked to him and then we all had to do something, he sat us down on the floor and said we would find out past selves, what does that mean?!?
So now we are all in this weird place, the city looks dead and it's super super spooky! i don't like it, we keep seeing these statues that show us visions of the past, before this city died, visions of people celebrating very bad things like enslaving my fellow wild folk, it was sad and scary! Cassie and i are the only ones who can see these weird black threads pulling us toward something. Sir Whisker is clearing the bath with his druid magic as i write this, i don't know what's waiting for us on the other side of this sickly wall of....wrong looking vines, but something tells me this is the last chance i'll get to write in you journal. i hope one day i'll get a chance to tell Io i don't hate her, but i always try to be better than her because she's my friend and the only one who can challenge me. i hope i get to see Oikos again! i don't want to be an adventurer anymore, i'm scared!

This was shot as a Leaf-Cutter Bee delivered some bedding material to a hole in a brick wall. I didn't see them again, perhaps they moved out! Clearly the hole has been lined with leaves so it was a definite attempt to nest, we'll see.
I know this is a little grainy but I love it, it shows how hard they work to build a home. First they cut out the leaf portion, then roll it and carry it home!
Again the D300 and 105mm Micro Nikkor, a great combination from Nikon.

My brother and myself used to fly in to Katmai after the lodge closed and stay in the empty campground at Brooks.
At that time of year there were no people in the campground.
So, it was just us and the bears.
Also, bears that didn't come around during "tourist season" and that weren't "conditioned" would show up and it could get interesting.
This was one of those bears.
When we first saw it, it was down at the lakeshore.
Then it decided to come see us.
We were cooking our dinner in one of the little three sided shelters that were there.
Each one had a "picnic table" and we were using that.
Anyway, this bear showed up and was very interested in what we were cooking.
It came right up to where we were.
We clapped our hands, yelled at it and it didn't budge.
Finally, I picked up a stick and used it to beat on one of my pans, while yelling for it to, "Get Out Of Here"!
That did the trick.
The bear left and we got to eat our dinner, without anymore interruptions.

Build notes:
Sometimes I'm not the best at managing stress, and sometimes I can get a bit overwhelmed with life in general. Yesterday was one of those days. I find that just building something for fun, using techniques I'm familiar with can really help me destress. Ulkai is a product of one of those sessions I made this MOC in a single sitting, just trying to build a fun colorful little dude. I'm happy with the result and I feel much better now.
Using the Pen F's tilt screen sideways as well as touch/silent shutter makes candid captures much easier to shoot.

Variable pixel size VPS (Variable Pixel Size)
Foveon X3 has another interesting feature - it can change the size of the pixel (in the future, this technology will be called VPS). The VPS technology opens up new horizons for the cameras and cameras they are installed in. The uniqueness of the technology lies in the fact that the matrix can change its resolution by combining signals from several pixels into one, which allows us to perceive a group of pixels as one large pixel.
For example: a sensor of 2300 x 1500 pixels contains approximately 3.4 million pixels. If we combine all the pixels in 4 × 4 pixel groups using VPS technology, we would end up with a matrix of 575 × 375 pixels, but each of them would be 16 times larger than the nominal pixel. This would significantly increase the amount of light received by one pixel, and inevitably would lead to an increase in the sensitivity of the Foveon X3 matrix.
The most common possible configurations of pixel groups are:
2 x 2 pixels
4 x 4 pixels
1 x 2 pixels
Management of groups of pixels occurs through a complex scheme integrated into Foveon X3
Because Foveon X3 fixes the entire portion of the visible range at each pixel location, the pixels in the merged groups are full-color "highest-quality pixels."
Pixel grouping increases the "Useful signal / Noise ratio", allowing you to take full-color shots in low light with minimal color distortion. Thanks to VPS technology, it became possible to increase pixels, reducing their total number and resolution
This used to be a longer skirt but I felt the length didn't suit the style and so I shortened it to this length. I liked it much better but was a little put off by the frayed look of the hem which I thought would be okay, but wasn't.
So, I bought some Wonder Web hemming tape to re-hem it and it's worked a treat :-)))

This site was the reason for my trip to Sardinia as I had to see this with my own eyes, how they build this can not be explained if you believe in the history told by archeologists, this is just so far beyond all the other historical sites they build, it was clearly build by master masons who had incredible understanding of the astronomical events. Also the precission is just mind blowing. The other sites were stunning as well, but this is right up there with the pyramids of Gizah which I still have to visit some day.

The Pozzo Sacro di Santa Cristina (Holy Well of Santa Cristina) is widely considered the masterpiece of Nuragic architecture. Located near Paulilatino, Sardinia, this temple dates back to approximately 1100–1000 BC. Unlike the rugged, megalithic look of most Nuraghi, this sacred well is famous for its isodomic masonry—basalt blocks cut with such surgical, millimetric precision that they look modern.
The Architecture
The structure consists of a keyhole-shaped enclosure (temenos) that leads to a trapezoidal staircase of 25 steps. These steps descend into a subterranean chamber with a beehive-shaped dome (tholos), roughly 7 meters high, which protects a natural spring. The geometry is so perfect that as you descend, the ceiling creates an "inverted staircase" effect above you.
Astronomical Significance
For decades, scholars and archaeoastronomers (most notably Arnold Lebeuf) have studied the well as a sophisticated celestial observatory. Its design aligns with both the sun and the moon with incredible accuracy:
1. The Solar Equinoxes
Twice a year, during the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes (March and September), the sun aligns perfectly with the angle of the staircase. At midday, sunlight travels down the stairs and illuminates the water at the bottom.
The "Double Shadow": If you stand on the bottom steps during this time, you can witness a unique optical phenomenon: your shadow is projected both onto the water and upside-down onto the walls of the inner chamber.
2. The Lunar Standstill (Lunistice)
The most extraordinary feature is its lunar alignment. Every 18.6 years, a phenomenon called the Major Lunar Standstill occurs. At this peak, the moon reaches its highest point in the sky.
The vertical "oculus" (the hole at the top of the dome) was positioned so that during this rare event, the moonlight falls perfectly vertically through the opening, reflecting directly in the center of the water mirror below.
Note: We are currently in a lunar standstill period (peaking in 2024–2025), making this a particularly significant time for the site.
Cultural Meaning
The well was likely a sanctuary dedicated to a water cult, where the liquid represented the "womb" of the Earth. The marriage of water (Earth) and light (Heaven) during these astronomical alignments suggests the Nuragic people saw the cosmos and the Earth as a single, connected living system.

Nam Long Shan (also known as Brick Hill) is a hill on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong, near Wong Chuk Hang and Aberdeen. At an elevation of 247 metres, it overlooks the South China Sea in the south, Sham Wan and Aberdeen Channel in the west, and Deep Water Bay in the east.
The Summit of Ocean Park is on the southern slopes of Nam Long Shan, with a cable car system connecting through the eastern slopes to the Waterfront in Wong Chuk Hang.
Singapore International School, Canadian International School of Hong Kong, Good Shepherd Sisters Marycove Centre, Hong Kong Juvenile Care Centre Chan Nam Cheong Memorial School, Nam Long Hospital and David Trench Home for the Aged are on the western slope of the Nam Long Shan.

110-Year-Old Decaying Bridge to Nowhere

Bear with me. I felt compelled to do a series of shots of my favorite bridge in the world, with her magnificent colors of water and sky. I visit only once a year (for 48 straight years), and every time there is nobody here, leaving her and her ruins lonely and forgotten. I will never forget her beauty, or Henry Flagler. The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is a disused bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. Originally part of the Overseas Railway, the State of Florida purchased it after the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and converted it to provide automobile use as part of the Overseas Highway in 1938. After a replacement Bahia Honda Bridge was opened in 1972, two spans of the bridge were removed (in the 80's) to accommodate boat traffic and make the majority of the bridge inaccessible to pedestrian traffic, but the rest remain standing. It was originally built by Henry Flagler as part of the Overseas Railroad which was completed in 1912. Flagler funded the construction of the bridge, along with the rest of the railway himself. It was purchased by the state of Florida and converted for highway use in 1938 after the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Rather than completely rebuilding the bridge after the hurricane, the existing structure was repaired and the deck for the Overseas Highway was added on top, as the existing deck inside the truss was too narrow for vehicular traffic. The bridge served as the primary mode of transport to the islands of the lower Keys, and as a primary evacuation route for many years, before its closing.
A new four-lane bridge was built in 1980, a few hundred yards north of the old bridge, replacing the old route of U.S. 1. Today, the former bridge provides a scenic overview of the area for tourists. Two of the truss spans have been removed in order to facilitate boat traffic, as the new bridge has an increased span height. The original bridge has fallen into a state of disrepair and signs have been posted on the bridge warning boat traffic to watch for falling debris, but all of the sections have remained standing (not counting the two that were removed). Using old tech for shooting water drops with a ring light attached to the front of the lens. Something different from the snow of the past few days. Even though the "Selectavision" type disc is black like a vinyl record lp at first glance, it will reflect colours like a CD, or DVD does. Sometimes you get some strikingly different results as in these 2 examples.
