Just playing around with some different backgrounds and adding additional strobes. It is amazing some of the shapes that form in doing this. :-)
I have been working on putting the tutorial together to make one of the units but it will take me a little while to finish it up. There is a lot to go through and I am actually still making some changes to the Arduino code and thinking about possibly adding a few more features to it quickly as well. Not sure if I want to do that though.
Precision High Speed Photography Trigger
I would imagine that the sun has swung around enough to really light this shot up nicely in the early evening, but I wouldn't know because we haven't seen the sun since last Thursday and we're not looking to see the sun until at least Sunday and maybe Monday. So it goes in KS in the spring.
I can also guarantee that the Kansas river in the background will fill more of the view since we've had nothing but rain and the river is at least 10' higher now.

Turns out this train got to me about 45 seconds too late for the sun. Since I was already in the air, I figured I’d go ahead and shoot it.

UP 949 and 951 were in the shop today to get there rotary beacon changed. Walthers put the wrong type on these units. So they were changed out to the western cullen type which is what is on the prototype units today.

Long the main feature of rural temple festivals across Thailand, the popularity of the theatre form appears to be in decline - but nevertheless attracts a small group of diehard fans.

The view from St James Station, looking straight up the Clarence River Valley, Northern Canterbury.
At 230km long, the Clarence is NZ's 8th-longest river.
This shingle road (Tophouse Rd.) will eventually lead you to Lake Tennyson, a small glacial lake on the eastern edge of Nelson Lakes National Park.
And if you were suitably equipped and skilled (and mad!), you could continue on this road until you reached Nelson...!

Managed to at least get one good shot of the New CNW in the old CNW yard. Was asked nicely to leave so I did. They did not leave so there was no chase, as big or small as it would've been.

I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracells took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 24mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the bright sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in Lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS, but still awesome and enough I felt!
