This turtle is an omnivore and eats a variety of plants and small animals.
In Vietnam, it prefers slow flowing streams and swamps. Even though much of its habitat has been turned into farmland for rice paddies, it can still sometimes survive in these new watery habitats.
However, like many other species of turtle in the Far East, it is collected to be eaten.
It is now critically endangered and close to extinction in the wild.
The turtle climbs out to warm up in the sand and be swarmed by many nasty tourists. It doesn't care.
while walking the beach late tuesday night, err, wednesday morning, i came across this alien being from the sea......... she didn't move much, which was very helpful considering the length of the exposure, 58.8 seconds........ yes, just shy of a minute flat....... had to use the bulb setting........
Stupidly I didn't remember to photograph the nameplates next to the animals, so I'm not sure what kind of turtle this is.

I found a tiny turtle on a rock wall by the Hike 'n Bike trail. I took him up to work and cleaned him off with bottled water to make sure he wasn't hurt before releasing him back into the wild. I was sooo tempted to keep him!
Green sea turtles come up onto this beach to sleep at night, sometimes there are 50 of them all at once!
