A turtle I found crossing Pughtown Rd. I brought it to where I work at Buttonwood Farm near Kimberton, PA.
This is a series of photos I took of it before I released it in a pond on a farm near where I picked it up a few hours earlier.

An Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina caroline) waiting to cross Hawkin Rd. in Burlington County, NJ. Although this seems like a peaceful county road, the turtle had had at least one near-miss previously (more here).
My neighbor hollered in that I had a turtle in my driveway, so I grabbed my camera and sure enough, there was a turtle. Good sized on at that.
June 21st, 2009. Aitkin County, MN. This female was looking for a place to lay some eggs. Unfortunately she was considering doing so right on the side of a highway in our yard. She eventually abandoned the idea.
This is what a Box Turtle is supposed to do when confronted by a predator, or, in this case, me. They have the ability to completely close themselves in.
Unlike the one that lives in my yard, this guy had the right idea - to slam shut!
There were actually FOUR today, but #4 was very shy. This one let me get right up on him (or her). Those EYES...
