Leo the turtle

Note the sand on top of its shell. The sandy soils in much of Florida ( and the southeastern coastal plain of the USA) suit its burrowing lifestyle well.

On the way to Guelph Lake, this Snapping Turtle was just sitting in the middle of the road. We gently persuaded it to go back into the swamp!

In the UT turtle pond

This turtle was stranded at low tide. We poured some water on its shell and body to stop it from drying out, but it was way too heavy for us to move.

According to others who came after us, the turtle's front-right flipper (not shown) was injured. Poor thing.
