The woman, who had two snapping turtles at home, grabbed the turtle from behind and by the shell. The turtle jumped, causing her to falter for a moment before regaining her balance. Then the turtle opened its mouth to bite, but of course it could not reach its own tail. She placed the turtle on the ground, away from the road, and jumped back. Smart move. The turtle lunged towards her before settling into this position. It was a mighty big turtle!
I went to the park today... it“s only steps away from my home, and i like to go there on the weekends. it“s nice there... they have all kind of animals and lots of flowers, a tropical greenhouse, lots of birds, a chinese teahouse... one can spend the whole day there. i went quite early, so it was not terribly busy. anyway, when i saw this turtle (they“re just swimming in the water, or in this case, sunbathing) i thought its expression just captured wonderfully my mood during the last week.
One of my RES (red ear slider turtle, pet turtle) was escpe and found lying on the top of my Emys. That's funny because, everytime my RES escapes she always lying on the top of my tortoise.

Mr. turtle was waiting for me when i left my carrboro abode (Hanna st) early friday morning. he probably thought it was still early enough to mosy across the backyard at his own pace without running into any human traffic.
I found this turtle literally in the middle of the road. A dirt road where a small bump of a reptile is not readily obvious. (S)he is most fortunate I'm an observant fellow. We do not have wild turtles in Washington, native or imported.
Shot a few pics with my lightbox both to document the oddity of it all, and to hopefully help identify my hardshell friend's species. Do you recognize it? Please let me know!
Mr. Speedy was in the hiway biding his own time.... so I had to relocate him to keep him from getting flattten..
We are having turtle soup for supper!!
Just kidding!! lol
Easily the mossiest turtle that I'm aware of having seen. I believe this is a painted turtle. This guy could tell when the camera was aimed at him and would pop his head out when focused on. This is in the Potomac River as it flows along the waterfront in Alexandria, VA.
