This was one of several snappers captured in hoop traps at ecology camp.
By sheer serendipity, we saw four sea turtles climb up on this gravel beach near Pauoa Bay, just after sunset, on the grounds of the Fairmont Orchid resort. Because of the low light it was tough to get their faces in focus. Oh well!
In front of the Statue of Liberty, a family portrait, and probably the last time they'll all be together.
From left to right, there's Gulliver, like any youngest child, spoiled with the latest technology (a jet pack) and accessories (a red scarf). Then the oldest of the group, Sheldon, in green and yellow. Finally there's the blue turtle, which like any middle child, has not been named and is never photographed alone.

These guys are hard to shoot when they start moving !
My boyfriend tripped when we had just began our walk in the woods. It sounded like he had kicked a rock. Turns out, he accidentally kicked this little dude! All was well with the turtle and he "ran" away perfectly well soon after this photo.
There are several different kinds of aquatic turtles at White Rock. This one was as big as yesterday's softshell turtle but not as round. This one is a river cooter. Apparently it stayed too long in one place within reach of a bird, as shown by the white on its back. The egrets and herons walk up that cement slope and shoot that stuff out for a distance of a few feet. See the white stripes on the concrete under the turtle foot? That is not paint.
