Another dig out of the archives from last june I believe. I wonder why I never uploaded this one....
The photo after this one is the entire turtle. This is a close up of the Red-Eared Water Turtle tucked in its shell while looking out at me.

He was startled when he saw me and started to take off. Then he turned around and went back for food.
Hawksbill Turtle, Barbados

Several species of morning swimmers—human tourists, protected turtles, assorted fish—share the azure waters of Paynes Bay. Boat operators here feed fish-strip breakfasts to about 15 young hawksbill and green turtles.
Today, I helped sample macroinvertebrates from a section of stream to assess its health. We got an unexpected (but welcome) surprise, though!
I think this one is a prime candidate for a caption competition. Thank you, yes, I am aware that it's not a turtle and probably not even a dove but the title fitted. This fellow must have felt quite at home today as she/he was not the only one in a shell suit at the zoo at half term!
This little guy came visiting one day. He scared my dogs. They didn't know what to do with him...He was tryihg to get through the fence but he was too big to get in.

I don't have much to say about this one, I took a lot of pictures of turtles and koi fish. A LOT. The one looking at us is totally Raphael.
An African Helmeted Turtle (Terrapin) suddenly arrived in our garden the other day out of nowhere - there are no likely bodies of water around where we could think he came from. We have placed him in the care of a wildlife organisation who will place him in a suitable (wild) environment!
We met a family called the Rask Family. A good bunch of folks who opened their home to us as we came through Houston playing a show. They had a nice collecting of turtles and other animals of all sorts.
