These marine green sea turtles are common on all the Hawaiian Islands.

We were just about to end the day at the sanctuary when somebody called this box turtle to my attention.

Western box turtle, according to Hans Meijerhans of Holland, who saw the photo. The red eye shows that it is a male. It is apparently a grassland critter.

Mushroom Hunting

Man, these turtles love to sun themselves on the cypress knees...I caught this guy this afternoon at the swamp!

I already recognize this guy--note the damaged right flipper. I photographed him on Dec 4th and then again today.

It was such a beautiful day today, I took myself to Sholom Park to walk around with my new camera. This turtle was sunning himself on the bank of the pond.

This is my favorite shot of the turtle.

Snapper turtles can grow to be very large. The first time I found one, it was twice the size of my foot! They can be found near most water sources. Like most turtles, cars and dogs are the most common cause of injury. If you find one, leave it alone, unless it's near a road.

Red eared slider in the sun. Taken at the El Dorado Nature Preserve (CA). While most of the presever has very natural settings, they did provide wooden sunning platforms in the stream for the turtles. This guy is sunning on one of these platforms.
