The texture and the way the light highlights the veins of these leaves caught my eye.

Light and shadows hint at the coming turning of the season. From shades of green to reds, oranges, browns and yellows.

I'm ready for the color, just not the snow that comes behind it.

On turning ten...

The whole idea of it makes me feel

like I'm coming down with something,

something worse than any stomach ache

or the headaches I get from reading in bad light--

a kind of measles of the spirit,

a mumps of the psyche,

a disfiguring chicken pox of the soul.

You tell me it is too early to be looking back,

but that is because you have forgotten

the perfect simplicity of being one

and the beautiful complexity introduced by two.

But I can lie on my bed and remember every digit.

At four I was an Arabian wizard.

I could make myself invisible

by drinking a glass of milk a certain way.

At seven I was a soldier, at nine a prince.

But now I am mostly at the window

watching the late afternoon light.

Back then it never fell so solemnly

against the side of my tree house,

and my bicycle never leaned against the garage

as it does today,

all the dark blue speed drained out of it.

This is the beginning of sadness, I say to myself,

as I walk through the universe in my sneakers.

It is time to say good-bye to my imaginary friends,

time to turn the first big number.

It seems only yesterday I used to believe

there was nothing under my skin but light.

If you cut me I could shine.

But now when I fall upon the sidewalks of life,

I skin my knees. I bleed.

For Me Again Monday: idioms. I love the idea of "turning the corner". The idea that in this life you can "turn" and your path ahead looks totally different.

This shot was supposed to be COMPLETELY different, but today was an example of no matter how much you think things out- sometimes it is just not going to happen. I was planning to get up early today and walk to a building close to my house with lots of cool corners and mirrors. Woke up to rain - in San Diego that happens 5 times a year - so I thought I'd do it after work. Still raining. There went the tripod idea. So I went anyway - found one little spot which was covered and took a few shots and this one had the most corner in it. The connection to the idiom is a bit on the lame side - lucky our bosses over at MAM are pretty laid back.

I thought it would be funny to capture a still of the bus I used to take after school on Merivale Road, after school had ended.

I'd timed when the buses normally leaved the school after it got out, then simply watched and waited using the city's traffic camera located on the corner of Meadowlands and Merivale. My old friends are on that bus - unaware that I just caught a photo of their bus, from the comfort of my own home.

For complex turning forms, casting a giant cylinder would waste a ton of material. I turned a cone shape out of some cheap urethane foam, then made a vac form pull with .060" styrene. This will be filled with urethane resin then turned to the proper final shape on my lathe.

Turning point.

Well it was not really - what we were doing was a holding pattern in a very long que to get into LHR after a long boring trip back from LAX.

This is a shot out of an Airbus A340-600 belonging to Virgin Atlantic.

They had done good job and I was suitably impressed with the stretched version of this well established long distant favourite.

Local revolutionary committees are encouraging Libyans to turn in their weapons and those they're scavenging from fallen regime security buildings. In the courtyard of one former prison near the corniche road in Benghazi, they have collected assault and anti-tank rifles, mounted anti-aircraft guns and other heavy weaponry.

The Wilson River Highway, OR 6, is a 48-mile rural road that connects Banks and Tillamook. It's a popular route for tourists and an important commercial connection between the Oregon Coast and the Portland metro area. In recent years, safety has become an increasing concern for the local communities and people who use this route.

Turning 6 pirouettes on point is one of the greatest feelings my body has ever known. It is meeting that axis which comes from the center of the earth, and staying on it for what feels like a breathtaking eternity.
