An American sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) leaf found just as it was on a sidewalk along our walk home from school. In the fall, I look for pretty colorful leaves for my friends in places where the leaves aren't as dramatic.
The trees round here are beginning to turn, leaves turning to a dull yellow before curling
up and starting to fall - there really is nothing particularly spectacular about it ...
This tree seemed to be the odd one out, having leaves of a more interesting colour and apparently having lost most of them ... a real contrast to the other trees round about.
But the more I think about it, I have a horrible feeling it might be due to it being 'sick' rather than the effects of the season! If you look closely you'll notice there are no leaves on the ground ...

Still, it made for a nice snap!

I have been recently inspired by the Peak District photos of Stephen Elliott and it has revitalised my enthisiasm. Also I am experimenting with more vibrant colouful processing (not that I am trying to copy or anything).

The weapons and ammunition being turned in by civilians in Benghazi includes tank and rocket-propelled grenade rounds. The box next to the shells contained semtex - plastic explosives.
The tailstock has been moved over for an MT3 taper. The part will be a pinion holder for the rotary table.

P&W NH-1 turned its whole train of hoppers on the Old Saybrook wye, while Valley 3025 waited its turn.

This was about my 3rd quilt done in 2004 or 05. Just got it quilted last summer. Full of wrinkles and still needs binding.
Turning back overhead Queenstown after departing from runway 23. The RNAV SID from runway 23 takes you to the south over the lake, followed by a gentle right hand turn back overhead to intercept the route.

This unafraid young male Red-tailed Hawk was captured in mid-turn on the telephone cable above Pleasant Plains Road where the driveway begins for the Main Office of The Great Swamp NWR in Morris County, NJ, USA, and was imaged on January 23, 2008. Camera: Canon 350D and AI Nikkor 300mm f4.5 ED-IF lens plus Fotodiox Nikon mount to Canon mount adapter ring, hand held, manually focused, stop-down metered in Av mode, with available ambient light.
This is a VINTAGE Japanese Yukata. Yukata are informal kimono worn to and from the bathhouse and for street festivals. They are essentially the jeans and t-shirt combo of the kimono world, and they are meant to be worn only in the summer. This kimono likely originates in the Showa Period (1926 - 1989). It is dyed with a bright pattern of turning maple leaves on a traditional indigo background. This kimono is rather small in size, so it was likely ether made for a very petite woman or possibly a teenager.
I have inspected this kimono in detail, and there is minimal damage; only a couple of faint marks on the inside of the collar. Overall I would rate this kimono as being in excellent vintage condition. There are no tears, holes or seam separations. I believe this garment is 100% cotton.

SIZING:
If you are unsure of how to interpret the kimono's size it is important to know that the length (collar - hem) should be approximately 10cm longer to 10cm shorter than the wearer's overall height (longer is better). This is because the excess length will be folded up at the waist. Meanwhile, the skirt should wrap around the hips a full 1.5 times. The armspan should also reach wrist to wrist on the wearer. In this case, the kimono will ideally fit a woman about 136cm (4'5") - 156cm (5'1") tall, with hips about 92cm (36") around. There is some give and take in these measurements though.

Historic turning stones in Geraldine used to guide horse drawn wagons along narrow lanes in the mid to late 1800s.
The stones were used as a pivot for horse drawn wagons going in and out of service lanes that ran off Talbot Street. They marked each side of the entrance and also prevented the carts damaging the edge of corner buildings.
Most of the stones were removed as motorized vehicles took over from horses.
