Mother went this time last year to Babenhausen to visit the Blachniks, whom our family has known 58 years, and we were planning for her to go over again stand-by on the flight I was working this weekend. It began to fill and I was unable to swap trips: if my scheduled flight had no empty passenger seats, I could not carry my mother over the ocean on that day, so Joe agreed to accompany her the day before and I would work the next day to Frankfurt, then ride the crew bus to Mainz, take the train to Babenhausen, visit Mother and the Blachniks, and pick Joe up. He and I would take the train to Mainz, and he would ride back with me while I worked the flight to Charlotte.
And we did! So Mother is in Babenhausen, Joe & I in Charlotte. Next we need her return trip back to the States.
As my vacation is starting, I plan to fly back stand-by, see the Blachniks, Mother, and maybe her host family in Babenhausen a few days while I stay at a hotel, then take Mother by train to Mainz she wants to see, and fly stand-by again; after landing in Charlotte she will overnight with her sister Marie Robinson in Gastonia, to break up the drive back to her home in Brevard.

Yes, it is Avery's birthday today! So happy to spend the day with her doing all of her favorite things...toysrus, lunch at Logan's (she loves the peanuts), icee's at Target...Chuck-E-Cheese for dinner tonight. Gonna keep this short so I dont get teary-eyed. A Candyland theme party is planned for this Saturday....more fun to come!

A Lake Central Rail Tours Fall Color excursion has just arrived at the end of the former Ann Arbor mainline in Yuma. The engineer has just switched ends and shortly the train will depart back for Cadillac and ultimately Owosso. I had the opportunity to ride in the cab of #385 during this trip, and it was an experience I will always remember fondly! The line to Yuma has been out of service now for almost 5 years.

A joint venture between Toijala's locomotive museum and Swedish based association "Svenska Motorvagnsklubben" who have ordered a four day long excursions around Southern and central Finland on board the type Dm7 dieselrailcar number 4216 which itself is operaited by the association of railway enthusiast of Northern Finland or Porha for short. On the second day, the Swedes on board the 4216 were brought to Haapamäki where they had the chance to have a look at the museum rollingstock of Haapamäki museum locomotive society and also have a cup of coffee on a cafecar. After that the journey commenced towards East and the day should be finished in Mikkeli. 4216 has to be turned on the turntable as it is preferred among drivers that Dm7 are driven by the calm end rather than the noisy end with the engine compartment in it. While passengers are still on board, the 4216 is the turning celebrity on the turntable as the locomotives of HMVY watch.
Just love the colors of Autumn the leaves as they change color ..don't like the thought of the winter coming though.lol so am making the most of the sunny days we are now going to get..
Have had to stop my pets from messing up my little spot here that I want to use to grab a few last rays of sun today..they just love to run and play, shame they chose my place to do it it.. grins.

You know that feeling when you believe someone is watching you. It's called "gaze sense."
I've read gaze sense described as "Even when someone isn't in front of you, you can sense their gaze from your peripheral vision."
When feeling like someone is watching me, I attribute that awareness to a sense of unease or a prickling on the back of my neck. Brrrr - it gives me shivers to even think about it.
Well, I was dressed to turn heads this Saturday night at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel bar so I was prepared.
My gaze sensors were set to maximum sensitivity in this crowded scene but only received a single weak signal. Oddly it seemed to be originating from the floor to my right!
I'd like to report that all eyes were on me in that bar, but that would be the tail wagging the dog.
