We take many things for granted, bridges are just one of them, they are ubiquitous and we place trust in the engineers that design them to ensure they are safe for our use.

Greensand Trust Volunteer day at the roadside nature reserve on the A507 near Ampthill Park 20/2/2018 TL023381

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for coming to the Verge Task. You did an amazing job and Bernard said it’s the most he remembers getting done there in one day!

I hope you all enjoyed it.

I believe you may be back at Ampthill Park on March 6th, so I hope to see you then!

Thanks again.Yours, Jamie Proud

Tim Spencer

Dear All,

I understand from Jamie that the task at the Ampthill Verge went well on Tuesday – thank you all for your hard work.

In a change from the published task schedule (yes another!), next Tuesday’s task (27th February) will be at Maulden Heath; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.

Have a good weekend,

Tim Spencer

Hi all

Apologies for oversleeping the preceding week at Maulden Heath.

We had an excellent day at Ampthill Park despite the dull greyness most of the time with a few patches of sun in the last quarter. We did miss the usual cakes and donuts but I think I did see Messrs Clarke & Moffatt with a packet of Jaffa Cakes.

I was amazed at how much was cleared this time but it had helped that Jamie had cut the bank top for the full length of the reserve.

Not much wildlife to see through the smoke of Jane's slow to start fire but there were some nice lichens and while I was inspecting the NZ Pymy Weed Clearance and the hedge and ditchwork carried out on separate tasks I managed to snap a Great Spotted Woodpecker who was contemplating on a bough a little above me.

Snaps of all these as usual at www.flickr.com/photos/pitzys_pyx/39673086504/in/datetaken/ and left arrow clicks to www.flickr.com/photos/pitzys_pyx/25511622787/

On the news front I spoke to Colin A and he has to have an op at Papworth at sometime to be determined but he sends you all a big hellow that I am passing on.

Similarly Audrey B is a bit under the weather at the moment but is keeping wrapped up warm and cosy (and as always busy).

See you all on Tuesday. Wrap up warm.

A Memorial Flight and War Time Exhibition organised by Frinton & Walton Heritage Trust held on the greensward, Esplanade, Frinton-on-Sea .

A Spitfire from the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was due to carry out a flypast to Pilot Officer Gerard Maffett , who was killed bailing out of his fighter aircraft in WWII at Walton on the Naze Essex.

Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions the Spitfire was grounded.
