This is actually a Japanese room partition (see below) that has been processed with the Photogene and TrueHDR iPhone apps (posterizing the image with Photogene, then blending the original and the posterized image in TrueHDR, and then posterizing the blend).

Please excuse my use of "Photoshop" type gimmicks, but I was bored (one needs a distraction while waiting for your restaurant order to be delivered to your table :) I had tried hard to make something nice out of the room partition (with the converging lines), but it still wasn't going anywhere.

They told me this was from the 1600's and imported from Europe. The back of the glass only had a couple of spotlights behind it (leading into another room). It was quite contrasty, so I used the TrueHDR app to extend the dynamic range as much as possible.

NYC, The Lower East Side

Today is the start of a long drive with my wife from Finland to Sweden. The first part of the journey is a 230 mile journey up to Lapland. Then after an overnight stop in Lapland we then drive 400 miles into Sweden. I'm hoping for a better photo tomorrow, we'll see though.

Went for a walk on the ice today out to an island in the snow. This was the view from the island (very beautiful). It almost felt warm today compared to the last few days still -11 Celsius though.

A view of the start/finish line at HockenheimRing Germany.

The view up Bay Street from my office window on a wet day.

iPhone 3GS + 2 exposures combined with the TrueHDR app + ShakeItPhoto app

Found southwest of Sandborn, Indiana, just off of SR-67. Totally love the faded "MAIL POUCH" advertisement on the barn. A classic American image.

One of my favorite iPhone 4 images. Printed, framed and on my wall.

Update: July 28, 2014 - Notified that this image took 2nd place in the JCC Mobile Photography contest under the category of Landscape.

McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania

The St Mary's Cover Bridge over the Shade Creek in Cromwell, Pa. Built 1896.

The view from the Big Mountain overlook, in South Central Pennsylvania, looking out over the Path Valley at sunrise.

The town of St. Wolfgangim, near Slazburg in Austria. Captured with iPhone in the early morning with the app TrueHDR. Sept. 20 2012.

TrueHDR really saved this scene. The dark clouds and the bright morning light on the yellow building kept giving me washed out results. Happy this app really captured it as I saw it.

Our first full day in Austria was to be driving though and visiting the alps. Instead it consisted of driving though the country on a cold and windy day. Very little of the the Alps where to be seen. They covered head to toe in thick blankets of clouds in varying shades of grey.

It was to be a day of exploring the outdoors but the weather keep us pushing slowly onward to our evening destination.

We were heading for the Wolfgangsee and the town of St. Wolfgangim,

It was getting late as we were getting closer to our destination and the rain had finely let up to a constant drizzle.

We decided to take a shorter looking road that appeared to passed through a mountain, rather than going the long way around the foot of it.

Instead of going through a mountain, it ended up being a very small one lane toll road that went over the mountain in a very winding switch back style.

It was a great road the highlight of the day. Great views and little surprises along the way. We were so happy we decided to go that route.

We arrived at our destination, got a room, ate some dinner, took an evening stroll around the town and then headed to bed hoping that tomorrow would bring a better day.

When we awoke in the morning this is what I saw off our balcony.

We would be heading to that dark cloud covered mountain in the background as our first adventure of the day. A trip up to Schafberg on the the Schafgergbhan.

The green water is due to an algal bloom.

One of my favorite shots from the day. This was an accident as I took a back road, saw this, stopped my car on the side of the road with the flashers on and captured this. Located north of Worthington, Indiana.

iP4 with TrueHDR.

I liked the rain storm far out over the Pacific ocean. The big cement blocks are used to keep people back away from eroding areas.

Duomo di Pisa, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture

I do almost no true HDR, but occasionally I get the itch. This was done in three exposures with Photomatix Pro 3.2

I'm always on the lookout for cool old buildings. So I was happy to find this one, tucked back a short dirt road, off the side of Old Route 10 on the south side of Grantham. It's an area worth further exploration for sure!

The Evening News (JHWatkins)

Catalytic confrontations

Calculated crawl,

Embryonic isolations,

Future free-for-all.

Energetic exhortation,

Apoplexied brawl,

Catatonic saturation,

Isometric ball.

Egocentric salutation,

Fatalistic fall,

Megalithic mumbo jumbo,

Paganistic pall.

Pugilistic palpitation,

Excavated sprawl,

Perspiration aggravation,

Aspirated wall.

Ammunition malnutrition,

Superstition stall,

California concentrated,

Captivated thrall.

Bound and ground,

Then taken down,

By the very best-

With one more show

Worth watching,

And then we’re headed west.

Recreation generation,

By the book denomination,

Families filled with hesitation,

RVs racked for roaming.

Picking up the pieces,

Layed down on the land,

With wasted wealth and watersheds,

And regions raped by man.

Calibration castigations,

Asymmetric aberrations,

Guided tours with revelations,

Ratted out and ruined.

Catastrophic congregations,

Commutated castings,

Calvinistic computations,

Debonair and prancing.

Altruistic aspirations,

Stoned, bemoaned abbreviations,

Terrified with trepidations,

Gnomes long gone and gassed!

Honed and cloned then overthrown,

Granted one last wish-

Celebrated, then negated-

Dangling near the dish!

Partisan unprinciples,

In petrifying packs-

With news and views

And loop-de-loos,

And stab-‘em-in-the-backs.

Ready for the ruckus,

Sitting at the shrine,

Thought they really

Had the goods,

Now listen to the whine.

Thought they had it marketed,

Cornered and refined,

Around the town

The teaching wound,

Until they lost their mind.

Settling to the bottom,

They slid to lower ground,

Between the lines and valentines,

Some lost their Royal Crowns.

Terroristic tinkering,

Tumbling and tinkling,

Fundamental farkles,

Helpful and home grown.

Patriotic particles,

Hidden in the articles,

Compact and post partial,

Buried to the bone.

Vacuumed packed

And gunny-sacked,

Pre-segmented squalls,

Appalachian apparitions,

Headed to the malls.

Fevered and fantastic men,

Marching to the moon,

With masticating matriarchs,

In subcutaneous swoon.

Breasts blown up beautiful,

Complicated castings,

Fallen faces on the floor,

Mesmerized for masking.

Sacrificial sublimations,

Surrogates sublime,

Tetrahedral, analgesic,

Sentimental crimes.

Pawing, pungent prisoners,

Soothing, sexy swine-

Sows and cows and sinning sons,

Tasting tempting wines.

Navigation nuances,

Nuptials by Nair,

Feudalistic fragrances,

Held up with heavy hair.

Practical imbalances,

Factory unrepairs,

New wave cold and chemical friends,

Facts blown up with air.

Salivating swindlers,

Solo Simon says,

High-falutin prostitution,

Fixed up with the Feds.

Sports and courts and teasing torts,

Women going wild-

Dow Jones Average hemorrhage,

Help the homeless child.

Down deserted highways,

Less than overnight,

Covering ground without a sound,

Filtered by first light.

Lazy lit up lethargy,

Loosed by lying lips,

Bought the farm in triplicate,

Then sailed a sinking ship.

Galvanizing garrisons,

Gathering at the line,

Pushed ahead though nearly dead,

They won it one more time.

Tested in the tumult,

On solid ground they stand,

Groping with the changer,

Positioned close at hand.

Nightly, brightly flickering,

Turn the clicker off-

Before you go,

Don’t miss the show,

An evening totally lost!
