Westport is a town in the West Coast region of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on the northern bank and at the mouth of the Buller River, close by the prominent headland of Cape Foulwind.
There is evidence that Māori settlers lived in the Buller (Kawatiri) area from very early on. Legends actually place the first visit as early as 950 AD via the waka Tahiriangi with its chief Ngahue. The settlers appeared to live mostly coastal lives, though they explored the mountains for pounamu (jade or 'greenstone'), which they then traded with other iwi.
The first white settlers came to Westport in 1861 as gold miners, and the first European vessel known to have entered the river was the sealing schooner Three Brothers in 1884. The 1880s saw many exploratory parties of geologists and surveyors combing the area for the presence of valuable resources and taking the measure of the land. Amongst them were Charles Heaphy, William Fox and Thomas Brunner. While gold brought initial interest to the area, and for example, led to large areas of the coastal areas (covered by sediment from the river) being dredged for the valuable mineral, the area soon became much more famous for coal mining, still a dominant concern in the region today.
The Golden Triangle is one of Asia's two main illicit opium-producing areas. It is an area of around 950,000 square kilometres that overlaps the mountains of four countries of Southeast Asia: Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. (Other interpretations of the Golden Triangle also include a section of Yunnan Province, China.) Along with Afghanistan in the Golden Crescent and Pakistan, it has been one of the most extensive opium-producing areas of Asia and of the world since the 1920s. The Golden Triangle also designates the confluence of the Ruak River and the Mekong river, since the term has been appropriated by the Thai tourist industry to describe the nearby junction of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.

An increasing tower of triangles, using a double-sink point fold. I like the pattern although the lower levels become a little unwieldy due to paper volume. no doubt there is a nicer/slicker way to fold it, but I haven't tried that yet.
I try to put a twist on the ordinary by adding dimension through colour. I would have used Kona greys but ran out of slate. While waiting for more, I thought I'd play with blues instead.

The Summer Triangle is a well-known asterism in the northern hemisphere. The milky way cuts right through it, which makes it a good target for night sky shots. Here it is rising over our lodge roof from 10pm-12am. Shot with a Canon EOS 6D, Samyang 24mm f/1.4 lens, f/1.4, 20 second exposures, 3600 ISO.

The golden triangle in India covers up major tourist attractive places, that one must at-least visit once in their life time. The aftermath of a fire at Gunnersbury Triangle nature reserve in Chiswick. The London Fire Service was called to the site on the evening of Tuesday July 16 and these photos were taken early the next morning. Thankfully just a relatively small area was affected but it could have been far worse with the site tinder dry in this 31C London heatwave. No cause has been established but it might be something as simple as someone leaving a glass bottle on the ground and it later being caught by the rays of the sun. Fire officers are pictured here back at the site the morning after to deal with any further problems. It appears fire / heat can travel underground in the peat soil. Gunnersbury Triangle, currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, is a unique site bordered on its three sides by London Underground's District Line, the London Overground and Bollo Lane. It is adjacent to Chiswick Business Park and Chiswick Park tube station.
