This juvy Green Heron was one of the most entertaining birds I've seen in quite some time so I'm going to stick with it for a while. It made strike after strike from this high vantage point near the entrance to Alligator Alley on Horsepen Bayou, where the menhaden population took quite a hit that morning.

Evening Grosbeak female

It's been about 50 years since I last saw an Evening Grosbeak. My recollection from when I was a kid was that pretty much every winter we'd have flocks of them in the dozens, feeding on the sunflower seeds we scattered on the ground for them. Knowing what I do now about how scarcely we see these birds in any numbers in southern Ontario these days, I consulted my sister and brother to confirm or deny my recollection, and they corroborated my memories... "there seemed always to be good-sized flocks of evening grosbeaks almost every winter ... seemed to be pretty ordinary then — kind of the winter-time equivalent of robins", and "I remember them coming every winter the same as you do, so much so that I thought they were very common and dull". That's exactly how it seemed to me back at that time. What a difference 50 years makes, and what a thrill it was to have three of them (all females) in my own yard earlier this week!

Captured the scene from a bridge over the creek. A few hours later the ball had been rescued.

I've been trying to shoot this pear orchard for some time now and when I got off work yesterday and noticed the skies were clearing out I thought I better take advantage of the small window of opportunity that I've got so I packed up the gear and hit the road to see if there were any keepers to be found........

A special thanks to my friends Gary & Carol for inspiring me with their resent comps..........Even though I missed the full bloom I didn't miss the PoV from this amazing "little" piece of heaven...........:)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week................!

Went out to catch some rain drop action and found this little tableau. The leaves' bright colors against the bark darkened by rain created a spot of bright in the gloom. Press "L" to see the raindrops on the leaves.

Gray Squirrel at the park.

It was very windy just before the snow storm hit. This White Squirrel crawled up to this spot along the edge of a corn field. With it's tail flapping in the wind and it having to open and shut it's eyes continually because of the gale.It stayed up here until it was done eating.

Green heron. Taken at Wildwood Lake in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

It was a fast visit to Morton Arboretum. Remnants of Hurricane Patricia made their way into Illinois on Tuesday, I left with a handful of shots before the rain came in. The Fall color was on the downside.
