In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. I did a few painting on pebbles that I had found by the beach.
The colored parts are acrylic colors and I used a Pigma Micron 005 pen
to draw the black fine lines! It's much easier that a brush, especially
when the surface of the stones is not very smooth. Blogged here
In my daughter's back yard. Only my 2nd time to see one. I was late to the party so only got 1 shot before it took off. I was not in a position to see what it had in its left foot. My daughter and my friend were better positioned so here is the rest of the story. The hawk had grabbed a big fat Woodhouse's toad off the ground. After my shot, it transferred the toad to its beak and flew off with it. Very cool. Um, maybe not so cool for the toad.

Sparrowhawks are small birds of prey. They're adapted for hunting birds in confined spaces like dense woodland, so gardens are ideal hunting grounds for them.
Unfortunately, a dog barked before the bird could settle down and start eating again. It flew right after this shot. Got the fish pretty well & you can clearly see the origin of the blood on the bird.

Junior doesn't always perch in the open for me. However, this shot does show that juveniles have brown eyes instead of the deep red eyes of an adult.

"Three Birch Trees" by Patti Deters. Three birch trees stand together in a woodland field spotted during a late spring / early summer hike. Several blur techniques have been applied to give the scene a painterly look and a dreamy, peaceful feel. It was really overcast & the bird up there was terribly backlit. So I took some shots but didn't really know what I had until I processed them afterwards. Turned out to be a female bluebird. They like those little white berries to the left of her.

I don't know where the 2nd mockingbird came from but it flew straight into the hawk & hit it hard. I only managed to get this shot because I was already focused on the hawk. Everything was a flurry of feathers after that & the hawk left. I didn't see it but am guessing there was a nest somewhere nearby.

James Rhett, a descendant of a powerful political family that led the Secession movement prior to the Civil War, is the probable builder of this home. He acquired the property in October 1885 when he was 23 years old and work commenced shortly thereafter as a home for Rhett and his new bride. It was initially built only one room deep, reportedly for financial reasons. An interesting view is of the east facade on Pinckney Street which illustrates the original depth of the house. Remodeled extensively in the late 20th century.
Folk tradition labels the house “Rhett’s Folly,” because he intended to make it two rooms deep but was later forced to change his plans for financial reasons.
This is the look I often get after a subject hears the first click of my camera.
