"Three Birch Trees" by Patti Deters. Three birch trees stand together in a woodland field spotted during a late spring / early summer hike. Several blur techniques have been applied to give the scene a painterly look and a dreamy, peaceful feel. Please enjoy more outdoor nature and landscape images at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/three-birch-trees-patti-....

It was really overcast & the bird up there was terribly backlit. So I took some shots but didn't really know what I had until I processed them afterwards. Turned out to be a female bluebird. They like those little white berries to the left of her.

I don't know where the 2nd mockingbird came from but it flew straight into the hawk & hit it hard. I only managed to get this shot because I was already focused on the hawk. Everything was a flurry of feathers after that & the hawk left. I didn't see it but am guessing there was a nest somewhere nearby.

James Rhett, a descendant of a powerful political family that led the Secession movement prior to the Civil War, is the probable builder of this home. He acquired the property in October 1885 when he was 23 years old and work commenced shortly thereafter as a home for Rhett and his new bride. It was initially built only one room deep, reportedly for financial reasons. An interesting view is of the east facade on Pinckney Street which illustrates the original depth of the house. Remodeled extensively in the late 20th century.

Folk tradition labels the house “Rhett’s Folly,” because he intended to make it two rooms deep but was later forced to change his plans for financial reasons.

Just having fun with macro-scale back-lighting. Even moss on a tree branch takes on a special glow when it is back-lit.

In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. Today’s theme for ODC is HELLO and/or GOODBYE, so I decided to do a photo of my old Iwako eraser pig from years ago to the new one I bought for this year. As you can see the color of one in the back has faded and yellowed, this is what happens when you leave them out in the sun. So I’ve started to store my new Iwako erasers in a small box to protect them from the sun.

Looking For A Light Through The Darkness

This is another lifer for me! A fairly common bird that has eluded me for years. They are not easy to see. I had to learn the call & find it that way with the help of a friend. Beautiful little bird sidling up and down tree trunks & limbs looking for insects in the wood.

The morning air is much colder now. Covering everything in its tracks are white residues of frost, working its magic on every blade of grass, every leaf and branch in sight.....It's a beautiful sight to see.

On a side note, I'm making great progress visiting everyone. If you have added me as a contact in the last few weeks (or even longer) and I have not reciprocated, please know that I am working hard on that. While I may not add you, I still make every effort to visit and comment on your work.

The weekend is coming fast, especially to those on the other side...Here's wishing everyone my best.

Happy Feathery Friday! And enjoy the first day of spring!

"Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep - Prayer" by Patti Deters. A sleepy little saw-whet owl settles down for a nap on a tree branch on a winter afternoon, creating the perfect backdrop for this classic children's night-time prayer:

Now I lay me down to sleep,

I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

Guard me Jesus through the night,

Wake me with the morning light.

Amen

The "Frampton House" property was part of an original King's Grant to the Frampton family in the 1700s. In 1865, General Sherman's troops burned the plantation house and all the farm buildings that stood on this site. In 1868, John Frampton rebuilt the present charming Lowcountry farmhouse and continued to work the land.

This tree is about 250 years old. Spanish moss and Resurrection fern grow on this tree.

Shoot with a 105mm macro manual focus lens. Starting in Lightroom I cropped the photo to a square and vignetted the edges to white to draw attention to the leaves. A few toning enhancements a slight saturation boost were also done. Then I opened in Photoshop and duplicated the layer. I did this so I could apply a texture to the background with Topaz Texture FX. The leaves were masked out so no texture was applied to them. I returned to Photoshop and lowered the opacity of the texture layer to complete the image. Save and post to Flickr.

A male house sparrow perched in the crape myrtle on our property. My wife and I have been seeing/hearing a lot of birds this spring.

She snatched that spider right out of its web. Paused for a split second before Spidey disappeared in a flash down her gullet.

The woodland area of the Chisholm Creek Trail is full of trees of various types and textures growing all around. Now that autumn is well underway, many of these trees have started to lose their foliage, leaving them looking almost more winter than fall.

Did you have to be so cold...what the hell is wrong with you?

Yay, bird lifer! She came thru during fall migration. I was stretching my lower back out on a bench under a live oak tree. Looked up & there she was. Luckily, I had my camera next to me. I would love to see one of the males.

I kept two poses of her because I could not decide which I liked better. She is guarding the feeder and would swoop down and chase off any female hummingbird that tried to visit it.
