Great Blue Heron at dusk

In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. The red panda is a specialised bamboo feeder and has strong, curved and sharp semi-retractile claws standing inward for grasping narrow tree branches, leaves and fruit. Like the giant panda it has a false thumb which is an extension of the wrist bone. When descending a tree, head first, the red panda rotates its ankle to control its descent and is one of the few climbing species to do so. The red panda is territorial and lives on its own except during the breeding season, they only make a few sounds like twittering, tweeting and whistling, and they like sleeping and resting on tree branches or in tree hollows during the early hours of the day and they increase their activity during late afternoon and early evening. They eat mostly bamboo, but they may also eat small mammals, birds, eggs, flowers and berries. The red panda can reproduce when they are about 28 months old, and a few days before they give birth she will start gathering items to make a nest with and has and she will have between one to four cubs. After the birth she will clean the cubs and by doing this she is then able to easily recognise each cub by its own smell. Photograph taken at Selwo Zoo, Estepona, Spain.

LeRoy Oakes is made-up of a high-quality prairie, woodland, and Ferson Creek, which meanders through the preserve. In addition, contained within the preserve is a true prairie relic (the Murray prairie), various restorations (including the Bob Horlock area), flood plain forests, seeps, oak woodlands and grassy fields. The only native colony of Speckled Alder is growing here.

Seeds of prairie plants have been sown across acres of fields, both north and south of Dean Street. The site itself is varied and beautiful, with over 130 feet of elevation difference from the crest in the center of the property to Ferson Creek. Spend some time exploring. There are almost 9 miles of trails here, including the starting point for the Great Western Trail.

Officially now Winter and the leaves are still falling. Taken in a local park.

It was our warmest Autumn on record in Palmerston North! www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/305886/warm-weather-puzzl...

This is a beautiful woodland area in the Surrey Hills that I have visited recently; a great place for a late afternoon walk on a sunny, warm spring day, with a low level golden light shining through the branches ideal for a nice sunstar.

Releasing another from the archive folder. Taken three years ago, also with the Helios 40-2.

Another photo of the female downy woodpecker ( Picoides pubescens) foraging on a backyard Garry oak tree branch decorated with beautiful lichen and moss. Saanich, Vancouver Island.

Adult downy woodpeckers are the smallest of North America's woodpeckers. The female downy woodpecker lacks the small red patch on the back of the head that the males have. They forage on trees, picking the bark surface in summer and digging deeper in winter. They mainly eat insects, but also occasionally feed on suet and seeds.

A beautiful male cardinal sits on a moss covered tree branch along side a sprig of pink redbud blooms, with a sunflower seed in his mouth. Cardinals are common here in southern Oklahoma and visit my backyard often.

I watched this woodpecker as hit pecked and hunted on the branch of a mesquite tree in my yard. It found something to eat in there. This one is a male, with a red crown.

As luck would have it, on the last day of the safari, the wildlife came out to say goodbye. This is an African fish eagle almost perched in the clouds. Such a magnificent bird!

A native oak-hickory woodland with century-old trees plus native plantings, interpretative signage, fishing opportunities, picnic pavilions, paved pathways and a dam with a small waterfall. In March 1998, the District purchased acreage from the Norris Estate. On July 4, 2000 Delnor Woods Park officially opened to the public as the District’s 56th park site.

This shot is six months out of season, but perhaps it will be a welcome sight anyway on a hot, humid day in July.

Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend. I'll be stopping by over the next few days.

Two trees twisted together emerge from the frost and fog.

Imaged in 1990 at Tortugeuro National Park, Costa Rica. The green basilisk lizard is also called a plumed or double-crested basilisk; but its amazing ability to run on water gives this species its most recognizable moniker: the Jesus Christ lizard.

Abundant is the tropical rain forests of Central America, from southern Mexico to Panama, green basilisks spend much of their time in the trees and are never far from a body of water. When threatened, they can drop from a tree into the water and sprint, upright, about 5 feet per second across the surface. ~ National Geographic

I love seeing these beautiful hawks every time I walk this creek. Nice that they are not very shy and used to people.
