The Wormsloe Historic Site, informally known as Wormsloe Plantation, is a state historic site near Savannah, Georgia, in the southeastern United States. The site consists of 822 acres protecting part of what was once the Wormsloe Plantation, a large estate established by one of Georgia's colonial founders, Noble Jones (c. 1700-1775). The site includes a picturesque 1.5-mile oak avenue, the ruins of Jones' fortified house built of tabby, a museum, and a demonstration area interpreting colonial daily life.

A native oak-hickory woodland with century-old trees plus native plantings, interpretative signage, fishing opportunities, picnic pavilions, paved pathways and a dam with a small waterfall. In March 1998, the District purchased acreage from the Norris Estate. On July 4, 2000 Delnor Woods Park officially opened to the public as the District’s 56th park site.

This is one of four young Baltimore Orioles, presumably siblings, who spent several weeks this summer visiting my yard daily. I think they must have come from a nest nearby. The four of them stuck together pretty closely throughout that time and didn't take a back seat to anyone, although they kept a close eye on the bees and wasps buzzing around the flowers. Flowers of Cup Plant in the distance provide background colour.

Iguanas can range from 5 to 6 feet including their tail. The two species of lizard within the genus Iguana possess a dewlap, a row of spines running down their backs to their tails, and a tiny "third eye" on their heads. This light-sensing organ is known as the parietal eye, visible as a pale scale on the top of the head, and cannot make out details, just brightness. Behind their necks are small scales which resemble spokes, known as tuberculate scales. These scales may be a variety of colors and are not always visible from close distances. They have a large round scale on their cheeks known as a subtympanic shield. Their diet consists of mostly vegetation.
Iguanas have great vision and can see shapes, shadows, colors, and movement at long distances. Iguanas use their eyes to navigate through crowded forests, as well as for finding food. They use visual signals to communicate with other members of the same species.
The tympanum, the iguana's ear drum, is located above the subtympanic shield and behind the eye. Iguanas are often hard to spot, as they tend to blend into their surroundings. Their scale colors are a mode of hiding from larger predators

A European Starling in the backyard Garry oak tree...Such striking birds with beautiful patterns and iridescent colours!
Starlings turn from glossy and dark in summer to spotted and white in winter without shedding their feathers. The new feathers they grow in fall have bold white tips which gives them their spotty look. By spring, these spotted tips would have worn away with the rest of the feather being dark and iridescent brown...scientists term this seasonal change in plumage “wear molt.”
In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. A tree branch that seems to be a pareidolia entity, with the reflections on the river in soft focus in the background.
It breeds on inshore (and occasionally offshore) islands and rocky coastal cliffs. Nests are placed in suitable fissures, burrows, caves and cavities, sometimes the old nest of a Humboldt Penguin One or two eggs are incubated for about four weeks, and the chicks leave the nest after seven weeks. Reduction of nesting habitat as a result of guano harvesting may affect population dynamics. However, Inca Terns are very flexible and successful in using any kind of coverage (natural or artificial) for nesting. They can nest inside abandoned buildings and huts on guano islands, and in any pile of wood and metal slabs. Reduction of anchovy stocks due to commercial fishing may limit population size. The presence of rats and cats on some islands can also prevent nesting or reduce breeding success. Inca Terns will sometimes nest in abandoned Humboldt Penguin nesting burrows.

The Inca tern (Larosterna inca) is a tern in the family Laridae. It is the only member of the genus Larosterna. This uniquely plumaged bird breeds on the coasts of Peru and Chile, and is restricted to the Humboldt Current. It is an erratic, rare visitor to the southwest coast of Ecuador. It can be identified by its dark grey body, white moustache on both sides of its head, and red-orange beak and feet.

The red panda is a specialised bamboo feeder and has strong, curved and sharp semi-retractile claws standing inward for grasping narrow tree branches, leaves and fruit. Like the giant panda it has a false thumb which is an extension of the wrist bone. When descending a tree, head first, the red panda rotates its ankle to control its descent and is one of the few climbing species to do so. The red panda is territorial and lives on its own except during the breeding season, they only make a few sounds like twittering, tweeting and whistling, and they like sleeping and resting on tree branches or in tree hollows during the early hours of the day and they increase their activity during late afternoon and early evening. They eat mostly bamboo, but they may also eat small mammals, birds, eggs, flowers and berries. The red panda can reproduce when they are about 28 months old, and a few days before they give birth she will start gathering items to make a nest with and has and she will have between one to four cubs. After the birth she will clean the cubs and by doing this she is then able to easily recognise each cub by its own smell. Photograph taken at Selwo Zoo, Estepona, Spain.

LeRoy Oakes is made-up of a high-quality prairie, woodland, and Ferson Creek, which meanders through the preserve. In addition, contained within the preserve is a true prairie relic (the Murray prairie), various restorations (including the Bob Horlock area), flood plain forests, seeps, oak woodlands and grassy fields. The only native colony of Speckled Alder is growing here.
Seeds of prairie plants have been sown across acres of fields, both north and south of Dean Street. The site itself is varied and beautiful, with over 130 feet of elevation difference from the crest in the center of the property to Ferson Creek. Spend some time exploring. There are almost 9 miles of trails here, including the starting point for the Great Western Trail.
Officially now Winter and the leaves are still falling. Taken in a local park.
