An Acorn woodpecker (Melanerpes formicivorus) in the cloud forest of San Gerardo de Dota in Costa Rica.

The sharply marked blackpoll warbler is nature's hearing test, with a high-pitched, almost inaudible song. This long-distance athlete weighs less than half an ounce yet makes the longest overwinter journey of any songbird - nearly 1,800 miles nonstop over the Atlantic Ocean to its wintering grounds. In the fall, this black-and-white warbler molts into yellow-green plumage and loses its black cap. Imaged 17 May 2022 in central Minnesota.

In March I had an opportunity to visit my sister in Victoria, Texas. While visiting we toured many areas where I was able to get a photo shoot in. On this day we stayed in Victoria and traveled to the outskirts where this lazy river was flowing. Right on that river bank was a bar and grill where we relaxed with a Martini and shrimp. Such a nice view from their outdoor deck! Some of the views are abstract with many reflections. I will be uploading each place separately as I get them ready to view. When your AF Auto setting is left on 'Continuous / Group' and probably isn't the correct setting for a particular shot, you blame the bird instead... :-)

I'm still around friends, but European events have been somewhat sobering of late, and the inspiration to make images has been overshadowed by the appalling events ongoing in Ukraine.

Some write ups say that this bird is the inspiration for the phrase “ bluebird of happiness”. Well, I might just believe that because I sure was happy to see this guy flying about at a lookout point near Kamloops, BC. I was just sitting on a rock admiring the view below when this bird caught my attention.

Another shot of the Red eared Slider. I really liked this little scene. Wildwood Lake Wildwood Nature Preserve, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

In my short walk to the park, I captured this photo of the lighthouse and someone riding into my shot, which I kept because it added interest.

A great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), named Owlison, sits on a branch in the rainforest, Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka, Alaska. This is likely the B.v. saturatus subspecies found along the Pacific coast. Their hypnotic large yellow eyes are among the largest eyes of all terrestrial vertebrates.

Before the COVID lockdown I joined a Zen meditation class at Hakone Gardens, a beautiful Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. Recently we went to visit this inviting garden again. A gnarly tree hangs over the lower house. I took this shot using a vintage slide projector lens, a German made Rodenstock Splendar 100mm f/2.8 lens.

I processed a realistic, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
