A great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), named Owlison, sits on a branch in the rainforest, Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka, Alaska. This is likely the B.v. saturatus subspecies found along the Pacific coast. Their hypnotic large yellow eyes are among the largest eyes of all terrestrial vertebrates.

Before the COVID lockdown I joined a Zen meditation class at Hakone Gardens, a beautiful Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. Recently we went to visit this inviting garden again. A gnarly tree hangs over the lower house. I took this shot using a vintage slide projector lens, a German made Rodenstock Splendar 100mm f/2.8 lens.

I processed a realistic, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

It's hard to resist of great sunset, especially when amplifyed by jet contrails and clouds while being framed by tree branches.

In the Appenzeller district!

Taken by moving train!

A pair of blue birds soar through a stylised forest of tall, vertical trees with abstract bark patterns. The vibrant green and grey tones create a lively, modern aesthetic.

It's so beautiful to see the moon out on such a crystal, clear night.

all the leaves have fallen off this branch.

Happy Saturday xo

I spent the whole rainy weekend stalking birds in the hopes of getting some good close up shots. I even put up a birdfeeder (no visitors yet!) with the goal of attracting the elusive cardinal that sits in the tree outside my window. I'm determined to take his picture if it's the last thing I do!

Ok, that's a little dramatic :-) Anyway, I snapped this shot of the birds chattering away at the top of the tree - if I can't get a close up I'll just settle for a silhouette!

Happy Tuesday All!

It's a good motto for these times, however you can safely stay connected.... as this ice connects the willow branch to the solid rock.

A female downy woodpecker ( Picoides pubescens) foraging on a backyard Garry oak tree branch decorated with beautiful lichen and moss. Saanich, Vancouver Island.

Adult downy woodpeckers are the smallest of North America's woodpeckers. The female downy woodpecker lacks the small red patch on the back of the head that the males have. They forage on trees, picking the bark surface in summer and digging deeper in winter. They mainly eat insects, but also occasionally feed on suet and seeds.

It's the archives again, or until my new meds have settled down. Which hopefully won't take too much longer and I feel safe enough to go out for a walk.
