Day 10 of the March Photo Challenge: TRASH
Despite what some definitions state, there is a difference between trash, junk, garbage, refuse, and the like. Trash is exclusively paper goods. Garbage includes organic matter like foods. So said my environmental engineering classes.

Ogni anno oltre 8 milioni di tonnellate di plastica finiscono negli oceani.
L’80% entra in mare spinto dal vento o trascinato dagli scarichi urbani e dai fiumi, il resto è prodotto dalle navi.
Le microplastiche originate dalla fotodegradazione e dall’erosione delle correnti sono dannosissime, scambiandole per plancton i pesci se ne nutrono rendendole così un ingrediente comune nell’intera catena alimentare.
L’ingerimento accidentale di plastica è un fenomeno talmente comune che oltre il 50% delle tartarughe marine ne ha subito gli effetti.
Prima che si verifichi un danno irreversibile ai nostri mari bisogna necessariamente invertire la rotta.
Bisogna ridurre la percentuale di plastica che non viene riciclata o smaltita in inceneritori o termovalorizzatori, che spesso finisce per esser bruciata all’aperto rilasciando inquinanti e gas serra o che finisce direttamente nell’ambiente.
Bisogna ridurre drasticamente l’utilizzo degli articoli in plastica monouso.
Bisogna pensare a come riparare l’enorme danno esistente; nei mari sono presenti vere e proprie isole di rifiuti che vorticano seguendo le correnti naturali.
Si trova nell’Oceano Pacifico il più grande accumulo di spazzatura galleggiante al mondo, la “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”, chiamata anche “Pacific Trash Vortex”.
Le sue dimensioni sono immense, le stime parlano di un minimo di 700.000 km² di estensione fino a più di 10 milioni di km².
Queste fotografie rappresentano dei rifiuti che vorticano in un mulinello d’acqua e che, presumibilmente, andranno a far parte delle 8 tonnellate di plastica che anche quest’anno riverseremo in mare.

trash! self explanitory. That's kims sneakers, and this was taken along with a few other pictures, in the park.
Part of the moving process is cleaning out and getting rid of unneeded stuff. Don't worry, I kept all of these CDs (yes even MC Hammer), but the jewel cases weren't so lucky. Even still, it was hard for me to chuck these space wasters. Almost every one reminds me of an event/time period/person. Oh well, life moves on.
